Don't know when I'll have time to do more write-ups but here's a last hint for number 6 at least

6) It’s a space battle in the Koprulu Sector for the second time. ”Hell, it’s about time.”

Wings of Liberty. Heart of the Swarm. Legacy of the Void.

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate it. First time I've had proper Internet in ages - here's a big batch of clues

Current list - https://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=249858&page=1#6

18 - Resident Evil 4
- This game, which shook up the series it is part of, sees you trying to rescue the child of a powerful person.
- A popular action-horror game that has been released on numerous platforms in various generations

17 - Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
- This game introduced an audience that watches your battles. The audience can help or hinder you.
- This RPG, which features perhaps gaming’s most well known character, had a remake released last year, two decades after the original came out.

16
- This sequel went in a more action packed direction than its predecessor, possibly foreshadowing the direction the similar, more popular franchise from the same developer would also take.
- By killing enemies, you earn extinction points, which can be used to buy new weapons, ammo, and health supplies.

15
- This title made a cutesy character even more cuddly.
- This followed on from another character from the same company also being turned into a soft material.

14
- For the first time in 3D, you’re able to use a power up that dates back to the first game in the series.
- This power up allows you to throw fireballs.

13 - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- DLC for this game had a feature that showed where your character had traversed on the sizable map.
- The same map was used for the sequel.

12
- The location our hero visits has a striking resemblance to the codename of the console this game first released on.
- You have to serve punishment for a crime you didn’t commit.

11 - Super Mario 64
- The way you enter certain levels can impact the way you play them.
- The action in this iconic platform game is captured by a camera operator who is traditionally one of your enemies.

10
- This game, which launched a major franchise, was originally conceived as a remake of another title.

09
- This sequel takes players outside of the United States for the first time, with competitions based in France and Mexico. That said, there are still plenty of American locations to visit.

08
- That’s an awful lot of water

07 - Super Mario World
- This game introduced a beloved character to a popular series. The character’s main function here was conceived as an idea for previous games, but the hardware at the time was not powerful enough for it to come to fruition.

06
- This move to 3D is still one of the most popular entries in the franchise.

16) Dino Crysis... 3?

15) Either Yoshi's Wolly World or Kirby's Epic Yarn, I don't know which came when

14) Super Mario Galaxy

8) The Wind Waker

6) Ocarina of Time

Four out of five there. 16 is very close but not quite right. 15 was Yoshi's Woolly World (which was initially a Wii U game; Epic Yarn was initially a Wii game), so you were pretty much on the right path there.

#10 - According to Metacritic, this is the most widely acclaimed game of the past 10 years.

#7 - There was the strangest drama around this game's release, about how people shouldn't see it as "the new standard" of videogames because its high quality should be considered an exception, not the rule... I think AAA studios were just scared of how much this game blew people away.

10) Breath of the Wild?

7) Really was a weird drama. BG3

Both correct.

Alright, let's get these last two guessed before I spam the thread yet again!

#9 - This was held as the magnum opus of the genre it popularized for decades by most people, some still see it as "the one".
Extra hint - You have to defeat 4 big guys to gain entrance to the final boss area, whose entrance is very near the start of the game.

#6 - The game that, for many, replaced #9 as the magnum opus of this genre, and broke it into the mainstream.
Extra hint - You have to defeat 3 big guys to gain entrance to the final boss area, whose entrance is very near the start of the game.

Unguessed

En Taro Tassadar!

Remember when Blizzard released a sequel to that RTS game everybody was raving about in the 90s and it was fairly big and a huge E-sport, but not as big as they wanted so they made it free-to-play, catered even more to pros and removed the early game and now almost nobody plays it? I remember. But well, even now SC2 is still the best playing RTS of all-time. RTS is a clunky genre at its core and from my experience Blizzard is the only company that has been able to solve that (along with to some extend Nintendo in Pikmin), most of all here and the result is glorious. On top of that it's still among the coolest game universes and the campaigns, particularly the first two, are just phenomenal. I don't play the game as much any longer or enjoy the multiplayer quite as much so I have considered moving it down, but at the very least there was a good few years were this was the game and I certainly still consider it a Legendary title.

Throwing them all out there now.

16 (incorrect guesses - Dino Crisis 3)
- This sequel went in a more action packed direction than its predecessor, possibly foreshadowing the direction the similar, more popular franchise from the same developer would also take.
- By killing enemies, you earn extinction points, which can be used to buy new weapons, ammo, and health supplies.
- The second game in this series that has been dormant for over 20 years. The poorly received third numbered entry is what probably killed the franchise off for now.

12
- The location our hero visits has a striking resemblance to the codename of the console this game first released on.
- You have to serve punishment for a crime you didn’t commit.
- Often seen as one of the lesser 3D entries in this incredibly popular platform series.

10
- This game, which launched a major franchise, was originally conceived as a remake of another title
- “Wow, what a mansion!” - just one of several iconic lines from this game that’s known for its cheesy dialogue.

09
- This sequel takes players outside of the United States for the first time, with competitions based in France and Mexico. That said, there are still plenty of American locations to visit.
- A superhero is available as an unlockable character, whose special move sees him using his web slinging ability, allowing his board to be flung about and pulled back to him.

05
- Yet another re-working of this game was recently announced for release next year.

04
- A cross-gen release that had its map mirrored on the more powerful hardware.

03
- In this game, the hero can fake flight for the first time. There are three power ups that allow you to do this.

02
- Some feel the abundance of human enemies in this game lessens the sense of isolation the previous game did so well. By the end of the second level, you’ll have come across more human enemies than you will have done in the entirety of the previous game.

01
- In a way, this game is kind of one long escort mission.

Change YoY: NEW!   My Rating: 9.4 / 10

I found it surprisingly difficult to rank Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter on my list. On one hand, it is genuinely one of the best games I've played in recent years, but on the other it is a remake of a game that is already on my list and that doesn't really change anything about its story or characters in any significant way compared to the original. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment I spent playing it without question, but I also knew exactly what was going to happen at every point in the game. As such, the story naturally didn't have the impact it could have had if I played it blind, and as a result I still have the original ranked higher even though the gameplay was quite significantly improved in the remake.

Still, this is about as perfect a remake I've ever played. It kept everything that made the original one of my favourite games of all time, and improved on aspects that needed to be tweaked or upgraded to modern audiences, the visuals and gameplay first and foremost. The characters remain wonderfully written, and there are few games that are as effective at setting up a setting and story that spans over a dozen games at this point. It's quite possibly that once I've had some time to think and let my experience with the game rest a little longer, it will move up on my list and possibly even overtake the original. For now, it sits here.

I haven't played either game but I was wondering if this was a case where it makes sense to combine remake and original or count them separately according to our rules?

Remasters and remakes are generally counted together with the original game unless it’s a very significant overhaul like the Resident Evil remakes, the Metroid remakes, Final Fantasy VII remakes etc.

I guess I'll let you be the judge of it since I think you're one of the few/only people listing it.

Right, I forgot about that. It is basically a complete overhaul of the original game. They rebuilt the entire game from scratch using a new engine, retranslated the entire script, and redid pretty much everything else. The story is the same, but besides that nothing of the original game really exists in the remake anymore. For reference, the original looks like this:

and here's that same place in the remake:

Tyrian

My favorite shoot em up. If you like the genre but want less of an arcady experience this might just be for you.

For the ones who deep dive and do not mind reading there is a pretty cool story to explore. Recommended for the people who like buying and trying differnt weapons.

#47

Tetris 99

Tetris is a timeless classic. Tetris 99 is my favorite version. It have a few changes compared to the original, like saving and switching pieces.

If you like competition and puzzle games. This is the one.

#46

The legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time

There is a reason why this game by many still is considerd the greatest game ever created. Many modern games have a lot thank Ocarina of time for.

If you are into action adventures at all you should play this, but I'd say it is better to play it on anything other than the original N64 hardware, the frame rates and that awful control stick on the original controller can kill the joy in minutes.

#45

Metal Gear Solid

The first game on this list that can get my blood pumping while playing. The stress of being found is so well done you will forget that it is just a game.

Recommended for anyone how do not mind putting down the gun from time to time in their games.
