Welp, of course I lost track of this again. Time Stranger absolutely consumed me over the past 10 days, and having finally finished it - broken free of it, maybe? - now I feel sad I can't add it to the list at this point. Hopefully my consolidated opinion on it a year from now has it high on next year's list, I sure feel like ranking it high right now. Anyways, let me just drop some more hints and try to catch up over the next few days.
#13 - This game was lambasted pre-release for turning this franchise into a "generic FPS". It's not exactly been a common opinion since.
Extra hint - It's one of the highest-rated games ever, widely acclaimed as a masterpiece, and the first in a sub-series that now has 4 main entries.

#9 - This was held as the magnum opus of the genre it popularized for decades by most people, some still see it as "the one".
#8 - I've seen people complain that this game has "nothing to do" between the big boss battles. Having nothing between them is the point!
#7 - There was the strangest drama around this game's release, about how people shouldn't see it as "the new standard" of videogames because its high quality should be considered an exception, not the rule... I think AAA studios were just scared of how much this game blew people away.
