The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

This game signifies the modern open world action RPG. The only game of its kind that I enjoyed.

Create your own purpose. I collected books, and dropped them off in a small empty house where I found a dog. You can do whatever you want even if nothing feels needed to be done. I'd recommend this game to anyone who still have not ventured into the genre.

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate it. First time I've had proper Internet in ages - here's a big batch of clues

Current list - https://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=249858&page=1#6

18 - Resident Evil 4
- This game, which shook up the series it is part of, sees you trying to rescue the child of a powerful person.
- A popular action-horror game that has been released on numerous platforms in various generations

17 - Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
- This game introduced an audience that watches your battles. The audience can help or hinder you.
- This RPG, which features perhaps gaming’s most well known character, had a remake released last year, two decades after the original came out.

16 (incorrect guesses - Dino Crisis 3)
- This sequel went in a more action packed direction than its predecessor, possibly foreshadowing the direction the similar, more popular franchise from the same developer would also take.
- By killing enemies, you earn extinction points, which can be used to buy new weapons, ammo, and health supplies.

15 - Yoshi's Woolly World
- This title made a cutesy character even more cuddly.
- This followed on from another character from the same company also being turned into a soft material.

14 - Super Mario Galaxy
- For the first time in 3D, you’re able to use a power up that dates back to the first game in the series.
- This power up allows you to throw fireballs.

13 - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- DLC for this game had a feature that showed where your character had traversed on the sizable map.
- The same map was used for the sequel.

12
- The location our hero visits has a striking resemblance to the codename of the console this game first released on.
- You have to serve punishment for a crime you didn’t commit.

11 - Super Mario 64
- The way you enter certain levels can impact the way you play them.
- The action in this iconic platform game is captured by a camera operator who is traditionally one of your enemies.

10
- This game, which launched a major franchise, was originally conceived as a remake of another title.

09
- This sequel takes players outside of the United States for the first time, with competitions based in France and Mexico. That said, there are still plenty of American locations to visit.

08 - The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
- That’s an awful lot of water

07 - Super Mario World
- This game introduced a beloved character to a popular series. The character’s main function here was conceived as an idea for previous games, but the hardware at the time was not powerful enough for it to come to fruition.

06 - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
- This move to 3D is still one of the most popular entries in the franchise.

Turtles in Time

Hack and slash of the early nintees. Pumped-up music. Great soundtrack cool animations.

A little clunky by today's standard. A fun trip to in different eras. I'd recommend this to anyone wanting some mindless fun.

Change YoY: -2   My Rating: 9.4 / 10

Ranking the Uncharted games has always been a little tricky for me personally. In terms of pure spectacle, I'd say the second game is still the peak of the series. Even if Uncharted 3's ship section perhaps outdid it in terms of sheer scale, Uncharted 2's set piece moments felt more connected to the overall story and as such had an overall greater impact. However, as a complete package where all the different elements of the game are brought together in the most cohesive way, Uncharted 4 is the overall best entry in the series in my opinion. The Lost Legacy sits somewhere in between, I suppose.

While it doesn't perhaps feature any single truly standout sections like the train level in Uncharted 2, A Thief's End is still filled with a vast array of impressive moments and sections, and in terms of storytelling and writing it stands quite comfortably above the rest of the series, and the experience Naughty Dog had built up over the course of the previous three titles really shows here. In addition, the gameplay has seen some notable improvements, the stealth and gunplay feeling much more natural and fluid, and the climbing sections are much more versatile and responsive than before. In addition, the semi-open world sections add some very nice variety to the proceedings amidst all the very tightly scripted parts.

Uncharted 4 feels like the perfect send-off to Nathan Drake, and serves as a fitting final chapter to his story. Even if the series goes on, I feel like his part in it, at least as the main protagonist, is now over. Seeing him finally wrap up his adventuring days and settle down with Elena is a perfect way to end his part in the series. Perhaps the hypothetical next game in the series might star the pair's daughter, introduced in the game's epilogue chapter. Still, whether that ever happens or not, I'm perfectly satisfied with the way this story concluded.

Change YoY: NEW!   My Rating: 9.4 / 10

I found it surprisingly difficult to rank Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter on my list. On one hand, it is genuinely one of the best games I've played in recent years, but on the other it is a remake of a game that is already on my list and that doesn't really change anything about its story or characters in any significant way compared to the original. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment I spent playing it without question, but I also knew exactly what was going to happen at every point in the game. As such, the story naturally didn't have the impact it could have had if I played it blind, and as a result I still have the original ranked higher even though the gameplay was quite significantly improved in the remake.

Still, this is about as perfect a remake I've ever played. It kept everything that made the original one of my favourite games of all time, and improved on aspects that needed to be tweaked or upgraded to modern audiences, the visuals and gameplay first and foremost. The characters remain wonderfully written, and there are few games that are as effective at setting up a setting and story that spans over a dozen games at this point. It's quite possibly that once I've had some time to think and let my experience with the game rest a little longer, it will move up on my list and possibly even overtake the original. For now, it sits here.

I still haven't formally submitted my list yet. Has the deadline passed? I have awful internet connection at the moment so would be a few days before I could send it off

Not at all. Even early January will be fine while we're compiling the bulk of the lists

I haven't played either game but I was wondering if this was a case where it makes sense to combine remake and original or count them separately according to our rules?

Remasters and remakes are generally counted together with the original game unless it’s a very significant overhaul like the Resident Evil remakes, the Metroid remakes, Final Fantasy VII remakes etc.

I guess I'll let you be the judge of it since I think you're one of the few/only people listing it.

Welp, of course I lost track of this again. Time Stranger absolutely consumed me over the past 10 days, and having finally finished it - broken free of it, maybe? - now I feel sad I can't add it to the list at this point. Hopefully my consolidated opinion on it a year from now has it high on next year's list, I sure feel like ranking it high right now. Anyways, let me just drop some more hints and try to catch up over the next few days.

#13 - This game was lambasted pre-release for turning this franchise into a "generic FPS". It's not exactly been a common opinion since.
Extra hint - It's one of the highest-rated games ever, widely acclaimed as a masterpiece, and the first in a sub-series that now has 4 main entries.

#10 - According to Metacritic, this is the most widely acclaimed game of the past 10 years.

#9 - This was held as the magnum opus of the genre it popularized for decades by most people, some still see it as "the one".

#8 - I've seen people complain that this game has "nothing to do" between the big boss battles. Having nothing between them is the point!

#7 - There was the strangest drama around this game's release, about how people shouldn't see it as "the new standard" of videogames because its high quality should be considered an exception, not the rule... I think AAA studios were just scared of how much this game blew people away.

#6 - The game that, for many, replaced #9 as the magnum opus of this genre, and broke it into the mainstream.

10) Breath of the Wild?

7) Really was a weird drama. BG3
