Gonna continue the hinting. I had to move game #50 to #49 because I realized I had a duplicate game that was both in my list and honorable mentions, whoops.

#50

- A bird has to climb to the top of the mountain.

#49

- Departure. Initiation. Return.

- A game known for its musical

#48

- The monster of the Land

#47

- The blue dog got its own game, though it was passed over for a leading role in the movie

#50: A short Hike

Nope.

Just to be precise, I meant the original Metroid game, not the series as a whole

edit: oops wrong thread.

Around the Network

I ended up posting my entire list at once.

New games added to my top 50 that are either new from 2025 or I played for the first time this year includes Doom: The Dark Ages (PC), Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut (PC), The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered (PC) (Replacing OG X360 version), Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (PC).

I also moved some games around though the top four remains the same. The two most recent God of War games moved up the list with more time thinking about how much I enjoyed the story.

The Outer Worlds 2 is the only other new game from this year I plan on playing before the end of the year. Ghost of Yotei I will play once it hits PC and I haven't bought a Switch 2 yet, so haven't played Mario Kart World or Donkey Kong Bananza.

Another clue then.

#47

  • Nexus...
  • ...binds the northern lands together...
  • ...and ties the souls of all would-be demon hunters so they cannot leave.
  • There are six archstones in the nexus, but only five of them are intact, the sixth one being shattered and unusable.

Just the ultimate pleasant game. I actually had it at #51 at first before moving it up because I made a mistake, but it's nice to actually have it make the top 50. It's game that I didn't expect much from, howlongtobeat has it at an hour and a half and I thought it would just be a little timekiller, but I actually ended up spending four hours+ exploring every single part of its island and making sure I got all the interactions. It's just such a compact little experience of positivity.

Some additional clues seem to be in order.

#50: Probably the best PC-exclusive fighting game there is.

  1. Giants robots are duking it out

#49: Unlike in the other games of the series, no transformations here.

  1. Instead of transformations, you got stereotypical pirate equipment

#48: Looks a lot like Metroid, but isn't Metroid

  1. Originally released on the venerable C64, though ports to other machines followed very quickly

#47: A futuristic story with conspiracies and many twists and turns in the story. Deus Ex, as found by @UnderwaterFunktown

  1. You can choose if you want to go guns blazing, sneaking, or potential third options by bypassing some parts

#46: Ever wanted to shoot your console? In this game, you can in the final level.

  1. A Sega game where you can meet characters like Sonic, Alex Kidd or Samba de Amigo

#45: Still the same fun, but now with 2 drivers Mario Kart: Double Dash, as found by @drbunnig
