Developers and publishers targeting November next year for their games are gonna be very unhappy right now.

If it was any other game people would mock them.

Mario in October, GTAVI in November… that’s a big holiday lol. Can’t say this surprises me, though.

I’m curious how much GTAVI can help PS5 if it’s releasing only 12m before PS6? Going from >10mil Holiday 2026 to being the previous gen system 12mon later is a weird situation… anybody know how GTAV influenced console sales during 2013? Seems like a similar situation.

And I'll be picking it up a year or two after that. GTA games are decent, but nothing I'm in a rush to play.

I'll say right now that it will not release in 2026.
Releasing during the holidays will make much other high profile games suffer during the best release period of the year.

GTA VI will release April, 2027, quote me in the future.

GTA V released like 3 months or so before PS4/XBO and missing them, but it did not affect them at all, because new consoles during the holidays will sell what they have in stock.

I have a different theory: In order to make sure launch is as clean and void-of-controversy as possible, Rockstar pushes launch to correspond with PS6. Launching 30fps on a base PS5 would not be received well…at least, not by the internet (which loves so dearly to latch onto the most minor of flaws). Save it for PS5/PS6 as a cross-gen experience, and you suddenly avoid a potential PR nightmare! With how big this game’s budget is, Rockstar likely is trying as hard as possible to avoid any and all issues.

Maybe this means the PC version will be closer to the console release than expected though that could just be me coping.

Yeah more than anything this should put to rest the idea that the current gen consoles are gonna get a big long term boost when GTA 6 releases. Xbox Series will basically be dead sales wise next year and the PS5 will be at around 95m by November so the clear vast majority of people who'll buy GTA 6 on the PS5 will already have one.

There's also with the next Xbox and the PS6 likely coming out in 2027 means that the knowledge that the next consoles aren't far off will likely be out there and spreading so some people will decide to just wait and get a significantly better experience on one of those new consoles instead of the outdated current gen ones since even the PS5 Pro will probably be running this at 30fps with maybe a 40fps option available.

For how V influenced console sales in 2013 it did give a notable few week boost to the PS3 and 360 but nothing insane or anything like that. The GTA 6 boost will be bigger since the hype for it is truly astronomical but by the start of 2027 sales should quickly return to normal so it'll help the PS5 have a really strong holiday season next year but that's about it and that'll come at the expense of it selling less over the next half year now.

Another thing is there's the possibility it gets delayed again but after two significant delays I kinda doubt that'll happen since Take-Two will REALLY wanna stick to this new release date so I think they'd prefer to release it a little unfinished and finish it in the following months through patches instead of delaying into 2027 so I expect this to be the final date unless things are going very wrong and it's still in a rough state by Fall.

I don't like GTA, so I'm not upset or anything.

But isn't this the second or third time this got delayed?

No rush, we'll have 15 years to play it before the next one comes out :p

Probably delayed to brush up on the satire which is likely lacking behind reality atm.
