Mario in October, GTAVI in November… that’s a big holiday lol. Can’t say this surprises me, though. |
Yeah more than anything this should put to rest the idea that the current gen consoles are gonna get a big long term boost when GTA 6 releases. Xbox Series will basically be dead sales wise next year and the PS5 will be at around 95m by November so the clear vast majority of people who'll buy GTA 6 on the PS5 will already have one.
There's also with the next Xbox and the PS6 likely coming out in 2027 means that the knowledge that the next consoles aren't far off will likely be out there and spreading so some people will decide to just wait and get a significantly better experience on one of those new consoles instead of the outdated current gen ones since even the PS5 Pro will probably be running this at 30fps with maybe a 40fps option available.
For how V influenced console sales in 2013 it did give a notable few week boost to the PS3 and 360 but nothing insane or anything like that. The GTA 6 boost will be bigger since the hype for it is truly astronomical but by the start of 2027 sales should quickly return to normal so it'll help the PS5 have a really strong holiday season next year but that's about it and that'll come at the expense of it selling less over the next half year now.
Another thing is there's the possibility it gets delayed again but after two significant delays I kinda doubt that'll happen since Take-Two will REALLY wanna stick to this new release date so I think they'd prefer to release it a little unfinished and finish it in the following months through patches instead of delaying into 2027 so I expect this to be the final date unless things are going very wrong and it's still in a rough state by Fall.
