My partner was an art teacher and artist for many years, so he's been teaching me how to draw. These are digital drawings (using Autodesk Sketchbook) but I also do physical color pencil drawings and water color paintings.

It's an offence to the universe not to finish these ASAP.

That's incredible. How do you get the perspective so perfect? I'm not sure I ever developed a method or if I did I've long forgotten it, I just kind go with what my eye is seeing with varying levels of success. The hair on this one though, I know how difficult that is even with the best kneaded rubber but I bet those curls were a right difficult task.

What's the outline you start with here, shapes? Just a rough sketch?

I put a grid over my subject.  Then I draw a light grid on paper.  I usually start with the eyes and work my way out.  The eyes are usually what I'm going to mess up, so I start there first.  Without using a grid, my drawings would be horrible.

I've been told my drawings are shit, too mathematical.  I still enjoy doing it, it relaxes me.

For the hair I use really thin erasers. I cut them into the thinness I need.

Oh this comment was gold, I've never used a grid before but found this app and it overlays a radial grid. Absolute game changer. Thank you.

Went for a hike recently and got some decent shots. I'm a terrible photographer and my phone is 8 years old so the quality's meh, but it was beautiful there

First time with colour, not very good but I learned a bit a new medium.

And then I fucked it by putting in the background.

And work in progress, I don't know how much detail I'll go into on this yet but definetly gonna vignette it with some foliage to fix the slightly off center where I forgot about the tail. Maybe half way done. The head is fairly close to being finished I'd reckon.

Cheers 🍻

Was gonna go over the bird with the kneaded rubber and softer graphite to add more contrast but instead just darkened it. It'll do.

Yes, looks quite nice and peaceful. It makes me want to go for a walk in the woods, haven't done that in a while.
