It seems that Xbox launching their own handheld is the reason why they took the decision not to port their games to the Switch 2, and it seems they are even abandoning the CoD agreement because of their handheld as well. Basically they are in direct competition with the Switch 2 and don't want to use their games to make Switch 2 more appealing vs their own handheld.

Activision were probably one of the first studios to get lots of Switch 2 devkits given that Nintendo likely wanted CoD to hit the launch window of the Switch 2. So Xbox instead moving away from that agreement and launching their own handheld puts Nintendo in an awkward position, because if those devkits were sent to other studios instead of Activision the Switch 2 could have had more major third party releases coming out during the launch window of the system.

I doubt this is the case.

At $600/$1000 the Xbox Ally isn't going to "compete" with the Switch 2 at all, it will be a niche within a niche, and MS knows this.

There are also already games from Activision and other MS owned companies confirmed for/released on Switch 2 such as Tony Hawk 3 + 4 Remake and Indiana Jones.

I suspect what really happened was that by the time Activision got hold of Switch 2 devkits, there simply wasn't enough time to have a port ready in time for this year's entry.

The actual port itself may be the bigger issue.  But its definitley Microsoft's loss here as a release on Switch 2 would have surely helped to boost the failing sales.     When I say the actual port, I wonder about the look a the recent file sizes for the COD installations and they are tragic.  They has to be a better way to ship this game so that it doesn't take up 200+ GB of space.  its getting offensive.  I download the trial for the multiplayer and it started download so much crap it seemed like a joke.

I'm hoping that a Switch 2 port forces them to reevaluate the way they are managing their storage, and cross game dependency requirements

Seeing as Assassin’s Creed and Sonic Crossworlds needed to be delayed to December, and Elden Ring until TBD 2026, then I think the safe assumption here is that Activision didn’t have anywhere near enough time to optimize for a NS2 release. Especially when the game demands several hundred GB to install on PS5/XBSX/PC systems.

Call of Duty has huge file sizes and lives by its online. Not a winning combination on Switch 2, and why COD skipped Switch.

Yeah the install sizes on COD are obscene, and can't be justified when plenty of games with just as good graphics/more content take up far less space.

Online is not obstacle though, there are tons of primarily online experiences on Nintendo's platform from Fortnite to Monster Hunter.

A large reason for the bloated install sizes is that assets are often duplicated, but not shared across Call of Duty titles.

I.E. You might have Warzone installed as a separate installation, but go and install the latest COD? You are getting a duplication of those assets in the new install.
COD also tends to avoid using compression in order to extract maximum performance.

Considering the state of CoD at this point, do you really want it?

But seriously, porting the ever clunkier, ever more bloated, ever more online dependent game on a platform much more different than the rest would need a year to properly port (unless they are fine with a crash and burn port). And by that point, the next CoD would be already out.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

For me, I often get “hyped up” about releases that I know I’ll never play. Why? Because usually I’m excited for others. In particular, if Nintendo Switch 2 receives CoD Day One moving forward, then that means opening a whole new realm of competition that Nintendo hasn’t touched very much.

COD isn't just about the graphics and there isn't any game that I know of that has as much content as COD.  The franchise is just huge.

It has what, a 4 hour campaign, a multiplayer mode, and a zombies mode? Does it really have more content than something like say Witcher 3 which is only around 50GB?
