Forums - Nintendo - Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is out now on Switch 1 and 2

Waiting for my Switch 2 pre-order copy to arrive tomorrow (according to tracking), then dive in over the weekend. I was a bit disappointed for most of the trailers they released and even almost turned away completely by the desert/ motorcycle footage, but have over time came to terms with that maybe a more cinematic and linear take on Metroid Prime is just what I am up to here for my december evening/weekend playsessions. That together with that some of the levels look georgeous and reviewers besides their criticisms almost all mention that there are some really wonderful moments to be had made me excited enough to place a pre-order earlier this week. Now I am really looking forward to playing it.

I will grab my copy this afternoon. Can't wait ^^

About 1 hour in, I've beaten the jungle area boss and gotten the first key. The nerd NPC doesn't really bother me so far. The game is gorgeous in 4k. The controls work well, though I think the Wiimote remains the gold standard for the Prime series. The new psychic powers are interesting so far. The level design has been very 'Metroid Prime' so far. One concern I have is that the percentages I have for the items and especially scanning are really high for having only played 1 hour and how little it seems like I've gotten. The scanning is already at 24% complete and I haven't even left the first area yet.

So overall I really enjoyed the first hour, but outside of the visuals it hasn't blown me away since it's been more of the same.

It's finally here! I could only play 15 minutes this morning but I think I'm gonna love the mouse controls for the game.

Signature goes here!

Im about to go buy the game now. Excited to try it out

Played a few hours in and beat the boss of the first region.
I can echo what some others have said that if you miss what Zelda was like pre-BOTW, this might be something you'd like; it feels quite similar to classic Zelda in the areas are like a themed dungeon where you obtain a new power, use it to solve a series of obstacle, then use it to beat a boss.
Also met Myles; while he is a bit jarring, thankfully he's only around for like 10-15 minutes out of the first couple of hours so far, most of my time was still spent solo.

Yeah if we count the restart it was in dev for over 8 years, which is a long time for costs to stack up.

It's also just got a lot of extra stuff most Nintendo games don't have to worry about like more detailed assets, voice acting, motion capture, a lot of cinematics, etc.

To get it looking as good as it does while running at 60fps on a system as power-limited as Switch 1 also must have taken a huge amount of engineering and optimization.

So, you are playing it on a S1, not on the 2? Interesting! I plan to get this as a physical S1 copy, but to purchase the upgrade and play on the S2 (I plan to do that to the - very few - multiplats I plan on purchasing). Have you got the upgrade already to check the differences? (assuming you have a S2, which you probably do?)

I have a Switch 2, but I'm a weirdo who is playing it on Switch 1 cos of my autistic special interest in games that push the limits of hardware, and out of a sentimental attachment to my loyal old Switch 1 haha

Still looks and runs great on Nintendo's now last gen system, just at 900p/60fps rather than 1440p/60fps or 1080p/120fps.
