I feel like we're all saying the same thing, really.

Then, mabey next time craft your title a bit better.  The way it is worded is very strong and you weren't really saying the same thing in the body of your text.  It's the forum equivalent of a tabaloid with something quite salacious on the cover but then turns into a nothingburger sort of article.

That belief was reinforced during the PS3 era, when PlayStation finally encountered real competition. That period thoroughly exposed PS weaknesses. However, their response to that pressure was, in my opinion, commendable.

For the first time, the PlayStation brand began carving out a real identity. It started to build a library of original IPs that people could recognize and associate with the platform.

What are you talking about?

PS1 and PS2 already had lots of original IPs of this kind: Gran Turismo, Ridge Racer, God of War, Sly Raccoon, Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, WipEout, PaRappa, Syphon Filter, SOCOM, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, ...

If your initial objective was to talk good about Nintendo I don't get why shift it to this lol. Instead of making Nintendo looking good by their own merits it makes it look like they need help from the other companies struggling to show real value.

PS right now it's in a state where there isn't a clear path but that far from being "the worst chapter" (because they are making money, more than ever) it only shows they are in a state of rebuilding like many other companies have before. People love to talk about how good Capcom is doing and yes they are doing great and it's deserved but they don't remember or don't want to remember the SFV era, the MVCI era, the Resident Evi 6 era, the DMC4/DMC reboot era, the Umbrella Corps era, the Lost Planet 3 era, etc. All of that helped to take the company to where they are now. Why PS doesn't deserve the opportunity of failing and rectifying without people killing them in their minds? LOL.

Now you talk about people happily buying what Nintendo has to offer but is that really a 100% good thing? Pokémon is the perfect example it's not. I'm not going to talk about the games being fun or not because contrary to what many "people" think that depends of who plays the games not on your favorite personality opinion but Pokémon has been bad software for a decade and people buy it like crazy. I can tell you that level of effort wouldn't sell on PS and that's a good thing because that very reason basically killed the service push and no I don't have anything against services but the intention of shifting completely was clear and that is/was a problem.

I own a PlayStation 5, I don’t have any games for it, and I don't see a compelling reason to buy any. The games are stuck in 4K 30fps pugatory, which feel abysmal when my PC can run the same games at or near 240fps. Even if I'm interested in an exclusive (Ghost of Yotei) I'd rather wait for it to come to PC.
If Sony go down the path of locking titles to their console as a way to force hardware sales (effectively condemning those titles to run poorly compared to what’s possible elsewhere) it won’t make me loyal, it’ll just make me resent the brand.

Why do you own a PS5 then?

I'm too lazy to sell it, and it seems to be going up in price anyway.

Thankfully your post is so extreme in it's claim that PS5 is a failure that other people in here are saying what I'd normally say. Usually I'm on my own so that's good. With regards to the success of Switch 2. After only one month the Switch 2 can be bought easily where I live, whereas the PS5 was not easily purchasable for for over 2 years. So, don't be so sure the Switch 2 is going to be this runaway success that dominates the industry.

Why did you buy a PS5 in the first place then?

To play two games. I've sold them both.

PS1 and PS2 already had lots of original IPs of this kind: Gran Turismo, God of War, SlyRaccon, Jak & Dexter, Ratchet & Clank...

Relative to how successful those two consoles were, I find it astonishing that the only three surviving IPs of these two eras are Gran Turismo, God of War and Ratchet. The PS1/PS2 were great, but they were majorly defined but what third party devs had to offer imo.
