Holy shit. Everyone is old! lol. What are the kids and teens playing, I wonder.

Yakuza stats surprise me.

The real question is: Where are the kids and teens

The median age in Japan is 49 years old, this is 10 years above USA median age. Birth rate has been terrible in Japan for a while now

Kirby is predominantly loved by females over there ... Honestly, it checks out with the esthetics of the games.

Though the assessment that FF and Dragon Quest are loved by some of the oldest gaming crowds prolly goes hand in hand with the dwindling sales of the series over there in some part.

Yeah the average Final Fantasy player being 42 really puts things in perspective.

Seems that those who grew up after the 6th gen just never really got into the series as the mainline entries weren't on DS/PSP/3DS/Switch, so now there's a whole generation plus who just never got into it.

Didn't expect Yakuza to have such a high percentage of female players.

Also, HOLY SHIT we're old...

Found several more and added them to the OP: Here's where a lot of the younger folks are playing:

Pro Baseball Spirits - 95% Male 5% Female, Age 25

Touken Rambu - 2% Male 98% Female, Age 35

Valorant - 85% Male 15% Female, Age 23

Honkai Star Rail - 60% Male 40% Female, Age 25

Brawl Stars - 90% Male 10% Female, Age 18

eFootball - 99% Male 1% Female, Age 22

"Old" Japanese gamers dominated FF games because Square Enix' refusal to release the series on Switch. Most probably, these gamers started their playing years in the 90s when FF was word-of-mouth in Japan.

Heh, I'm pretty much in the FF/DQ gang.

Fortnite, Valorant and Apex really have same audience.
