Forums - Gaming - Even if Switch sells more than PS2...

Do you think PS2 is still the better console, or has Switch surpassed it as the best console of all time? I know everyone has varied takes on what is considered the best console ever, but a large consensus does consider PS2 number one. So, as a general question, has Switch surpassed it or not?

The Switch has more and better games, better graphics, is portable, draws far less power, supports HD resolution, supports microSD so you don't need silly Memory Cards, has online support without an additional network adapter, has wireless controllers (technically two of them right in the box), has built-in batteries and, most importantly, it has Nintendo games.

Yes, the Nintendo Switch is objectively the better console and it's not even close. The only thing that would speak for the PS2 is nostalgia.

Honestly, I think both are overrated.

Switch surpassed the PS2 a long time ago.

The PS2 is honestly pretty overrated. It has some good games, but I can count the ones I'd ever want to go back and revisit on my fingers. The controller wasn't very good either.

Even at the time Xbox and Gamecube had better exclusives and superior multiplats.

Nah, no 3D console comes close to PS1 and PS2 due to the amount of quality exclusives and timed exclusives.

Switch beats it at first party games, but it's just not comparable when most major 3rd party games skip it altogether or arrive late in poor-ish form.

There are several consoles I think is better than the PS2. What the best console of all time is are not necessary related to sales figures.
I do not even think it was the best console for its time. Personally prefer both the Dreamcast and GameCube over the PS2.

I don't think, at the current stage of the industry, we can get a console that rivals the PS2 library-wise. We had a much healthier mid-budget market then and much more experimentation and the influx of indies cannot offset the consolidation, sterility and long dev cycles of the current market. To be honest, I think the PS2 stand significantly above, library-wise, other consoles that dominated their market like the PS1 or the DS. Or most recently, the Switch.

However , I do think that if we aren't looking at the totality of the library but something like the best 50 games, which is a realistic amount of games that a lot of people will not surpass in terms of purchases per gen, the Switch can edge it out. Depending on the genres and tastes.

I could say the same for the PS4.

Yes, even though I never owned a NS1 I believe it has the best library for a console. It is not only Nintendos best system, but the best system in general. Also, there are still games coming out might have another big game we dont know about.

Switch has better games, so for me it surpassed it.

Ever since the PS2 nothing ever comes close.
Some people do hype too much current gens, like the PS4 for example, but it doesn't come close.

And the PS2 didn't come close the PS1 as well, so it was not the peak either.
