Forums - Politics - Why is racism so normalized on social media in 2025?

I will comment a bit on this subject.

First of all I want to grab a bite of the systemic racism debate. In the US there was a lot of policy that excluded non white people from housing opportunities. These housing opportunities made a loooot of families wealthy and created a concentration of wealth. While black people were given scraps.

Fast forward to our time, and the consequences are dire. The inequality of wealth is gigantic. From that, the best schools are out of reach and the best opportunities too.

On hate online there are a lot of factors. I remember a document from the Comunist party of China explaining how democracies were a threat to their model. I think it was called the document number 9.

Using the insecure ethnic identity of the dominant group in the west as a lever Russia and China systematically used bots and loans to push a far right agenda in Western Europe and in the US.

The Far right and the wealth accumulators being aligned because they believe in natural hierarchical structures are not threat to one another.

The far right used to be shunned IRL and had little to no opportunity to organize further.

Now everything changed. In Europe they are scared because there are a few radical religious Muslims who are violent and committed atrocities. Yet they ignore the vast majority of migrants who are just striving to work and find a better life.

In the US it is the same dynamics but with a bigger incentive structure. Conservative money is funneled to young influencer wannabes and a punchline is far more effective than a long winded explanation.

You just need to see here. The commentor resentment towards his own self hatred because of his whiteness. He needs public absolution because he knows that individually he is not responsible of systemic racism BUT by seeking absolution and focusing on what he feels are excesses of anti racism policies he objectively aligns himself with the racists.

By doing so, poor white people vote for a party aligned with the interest of the wealthy and of the ever increasing inequality (only the state can stop the monopolization created by late stage capitalism).

In a kind of self fulfilling prophecy they create a situation in which their resentment can continue to thrive because yes life is hard for white poor workers.

When we speak about systemic racism we need to speak to the white poor too. Their benefits from systemic racism are minimal. But the democratic party has failed to communicate and to create policy to really make a difference in wealth distribution.

All of these factors and more (having an actual manipulation strategy to radicalized young people (see Steve Bannon during Gamergate)) have fostered a climate in which billionaires have all the incentive in the world to align with the far right to consolidate their power and so amplify the voices of the hate filed comments.

We can try to create a better world by including and by trying to spread kindness IRL.

I'm not sure I'm making sense. I hate writing comments on a phone but there you go. These are my theories.

Racist is the norm nowadays,

Take us Filipinos they make crappy jokes about us,
Call us maid's or degrading health workers,

Some Koreans and Chinese make fun of our skin colors,

Petty things from petty minds nothing you can do about people with brains the size of a peanut,

Racist exist most likely coz they jealous from the other race most of the time anyway

It's easy to say bad things if you dont get your ass kicked for it.

It's that simple.

To paraphrase pastor and anti-Nazi dissident Dietrich Bonhoeffer: Racism is a manifestation of stupidity.
To directly quote comedian George Carlin: “Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that!”

I’m generally not a quote person, but in this case, they put it better than I do - and Carlin was doubtlessly influenced by Bonhoeffer.

Both the comedian and the pastor understood that stupidity isn’t the result of individuals, but the results of people in numbers. Social media gives the opportunity for all kinds of stupidity to clump up and grow like a cancerous tumour: racism, flat earthers, anti-vaccination sorts, creationists, nationalists, and so on. Ironically, they hate intelligent people and experts and simultaneously believe they know better than intelligent people and experts.

Now to quote Bill Murray about another feature of stupid people: “It’s hard to win an argument against a smart person, but damn near impossible to win one against a stupid person.”

So how do you get a stupid person to smarten up? The what is as simple as separating them from their group. The how is more complex because different environments require different strategies. Just like your kids, arguing with them isn’t going to work once they hit a certain age when one of them gets too involved with a group of stupid kids and starts acting stupidly themselves to fit in; instead, you figure out how to separate them from the source/group and the stupidity goes away rather quickly.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

They're comfortable and secure enough in terms of status and wealth that they're not negatively affected by elevating someone else--they're still going to be at or near the top regardless. Since they think of themselves the avatars of white people, the troubles and concerns of lower class whites are dismissible. Thus they are fine with "equity" since they're not actually the one who feel the crunch when the bill comes due. They are the white people who have been through the lunch line, have gotten their food, then come back to tell the remaining white people to go to the back of the line to balance things out.

Make up whatever fan fiction about the left that you want, but there is really no way around the fact that leftist policy is centered towards helping people who are not well off, regardless of their skin color or political leanings. The fundamentals of leftist policy are increasing taxation on the rich to increase the amount of money going towards the poor, either through increasing minimum wage or increasing financial assistance.

This whole fantasy that the left is a party of the elites just doesn't make sense if you take even a cursory look at policy.

Because platforms like Facbeook are broken and only way for them to make revenue it to cater to the crazy people.

It also sometimes restricts your profile if you call someone out as "Your comment doesn't add anything useful to the conversation". No shit I am trying to kill the conversation. Ir if you report it it says it doesn't breach any policies.

So it's a waste of time basically.

Racism has been normalized in media since decades ago. Modern social media is very hard to police, theres workarounds the filters. Annonimity gives people courage to be the douchebags they wanna be.

Ever heard the quote "The road to hell is paved by good intentions"?

Yeah, maybe another 50 years of trickle down economics will do the trick.

More tax cuts for the rich please!

Hey, I know its a joke, but with the state of the left these days...it might be the faster option.
