Also, maybe your Switch 2 is being overscalled in your TV? Check the screen size % (if it still works the same as the Switch 1) and make sure if it's 100% that the arrows are perfectly lined with the TV conners, if not you may have to bring the % down as the image may be kinda zoomed in.

Seconding this, when I first got mine I forgot to check this and for the first few days played it with improper scaling.

At home. Checked both versions of Metroid back to back and I think I figured out what's happening

On the Switch 2, the system outputs in 4K and uses better upscaling + HDR, so the image looks much cleaner

Because Metroid Dread is a 900p game, this extra clarity actually makes the image look sharper in a bad way: edges become more defined, aliasing is more visible, and the soft blur from the Switch 1 that used to hide imperfections is gone

So the game looks sharper, but also more pixelated, because you're essentially seeing the raw 900p image with less smoothing

The issue is minor, compared to the handheld version, however. And for TOTK the stable framerate makes up for lack of smoothing. I'll get the upgrade pack (I'll get it for free because I'm buying the Switch online) and check how it looks after it

Got mine yesterday

Was really excited to play some of my Switch 1 games

But I was left a really underwhelmed by how low resolution they play on handheld mode. Because of the lower resolution it looks very blurry and low quality when playing in the biggest screen of Switch 2

Zelda TOTK look a bit worse in docked mode as well. I was planning to buy the upgrade anyways, but I still have Switch 1 games that got no upgrade. Fire Emblem Engage looks more pixilated in docked mode when compared to docked in Switch 1

I was not expecting that at all. Left me a sour first impression because what's the point of having a brand new more powerful console that play gamers worse than an older console?

I can only hope more games get new free upgrades so they can play better on Switch 2

Did you grab any Switch 2 games?

I'll get Prime 4 but I want it physical, and the current delivery prediction by Amazon is 15 to 17 December

I'll get Octopath Traveler 0, since I own 1 and 2 on Switch, makes sense to complete the trilogy on Switch 2

I'm considering the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, it's slightly less expensive than PS4 version here and I never bought it because I used to have it as part of my PS Plus subscription (which I've cancelled)

Playing TOTK now

I'm always gagged by how they made this game run in a PS3-like hardware lol

Ascension and auto-constrution must have be quite nightmarish to develop

With the patch I'm now feeling this is a true upgrade. Framerate is extremely stable and there is not a hint of leg even in Korok Forest

Between Nightreign DLC, Metroid and Octopath I'll be quite busy this month, and there is a major Animal Crossing upgrade (plus the DLC I got from free because of Switch online), but I'm sure playing this game again once I've cleaned my high priority list

Yeah the fact that they got all the madness of Fuse, Ultrahand, Ascend, etc to work so consistently in a huge open world full of moving parts, on hardware weaker than even the base Xbox One is downright sorcery.

No, docked visuals of S1 games are the exact same as on the original Switch. Can confirm this.

Not always; games with dynamic resolution will be higher res on Switch 2 cos they're no longer hitting performance limits.

Oh, sure. I meant that they don't this weird double upscaling present in handheld mode.

Amazon also has my copy of Prime 4 predicted to ship by December 17th as well, but it's the Switch 1 versions, dunno if I'll buy the Switch 2 upgrade.

Since you got the Switch 2, I'd say gor for it. It will be an interesting showcase for the hardware capabilities

Switch 2 version is 4K right? It certainly would be interesting to seez but I read the Switch 1 version runs at 60fps so I might not carve in this time.

I also got Donkey Kong Bananza as a game to try on it right on tho.

I may look at the TotK upgrade when I come back to finish it, sounds like you enjoyed the upgrade there.
