Forums - Nintendo - New Gameplay of Cyberpunk 2077 for Switch 2 looks better than I expected

Tagged games:

The Japanese Youtube Channel denfami (denfaminicogamer) posted a new exclusive gameplay footage from Cyberpunk 2077 for Switch 2. Compared to the demos from Nintendo Events, the game looks more polished and the framerate more stable, so maybe this is the final version of the port? or CD will improve the port even further? We will have to wait the launch day of the game to see.

lol the Steam Deck looks like relative shit compared to the Switch 2. If the Steam Deck is like a PS4, then it makes the Switch 2 look like a PS5.

I think Switch 2 hardware is more capable than people think, but also comparing specs alone doesn't give you a true picture of performance, especially when comparing basically a PC version than has no real optimization for any setting versus a customized version of a game made by an actual developer sitting down and tailor making a game for one console.

Looks phenomenal for a handheld machine.

Compared to the same developer's Witcher 3 on the current Switch, the leap is generational.

3rd party games actually running decently well on the next console is gonna f*** with my brain for a while considering I was used to the 30 fps with dips most of the time 🤭

But gosh, the porting job here seems to have been done pretty well 👌

At least Cyberpunk will have a 40 fps mode, so the drops below 30 fps will be more rare.

Here is the new footage compared directly to PS5

Holds up well, obviously PS5 will be higher resolution.

Downloaded some of the press release content and it looks very close to the result one gets when running the PC version at 1080p medium settings when watching on a 42 inch 4k monitor (this monitor has the same display as an LG C2.)

Not the sharpest image (might still be some compression even in the press release content), but still looks good from a distance (say, 3meters/10ft) and seems to play well. Artifacts are noticeable if you look closely, but I really have to slow down the video and look for them. I am not very sensitive to DLSS artifacts though.

Looks a lot like playing the game on my laptop's iGPU (890m.) This is an iGPU that should be roughly twice as powerful as the Switch 2 docked -- on paper, but it is bottlenecked by the low memory bandwidth (88 GBps) so it never gets close to realizing its theoretical performance. It can run the game at medium native 1080p 30fps which isn't too far off from this DLSS upscaled version in my opinion.

Will be interesting to see what performance mode looks like. If it is comparable to 1080p FSR 3 Quality in terms of image quality, then that is again very similar to my laptop's iGPU (that's the setting I need to get consistent 40fps with 1% lows around 35fps.) I also wonder if we'll see the effective image quality creep up over time, with updates. Also would love to see frame-generation introduced to the Switch 2. Doesn't have to be DLSS FG. Could be a bespoke method or FSR FG. That'd help get some of these 30-40fps to 60fps+ on the Switch 2's 120hz screen with artifacts/ghosting not being very noticeable.

I plan to mostly play my docked Switch 2 games on a 16 inch portable monitor, so 1080p-ish results in demanding games like this is fine. When I reduce the size of the output to 16 inches diagonal, it looks crisp and nice, even close up (3 ft/.9 meters away.)

Here's a comparision between Steam Deck version (Xess in balanced mode to get the same framerate) x Switch 2 version (Dlss to get 30 or 40fps).

PS: Xess looks better than FSR in Cyberpunk in my opinion, but FSR have Frame Gen, so you can get 60 fps with Frame Gen on Steam Deck, but you will have to ignore a lot of artifacts and the input lag.

I mean, Switch 2's no PS5 obviously, as its like 1/10th the size and runs on 10 watts, but seeing this kind of performance on a handheld is still damn cool.

Cyberpunk seems to be filling a similar role to the Switch 1 port of Doom 2016 did back in the day, showcasing what the hardware can handle when pushed.
