[Weekly software and hardware sales figures] "The Hundred Line" starts off in first place! Five new titles, including "Clair Obscur: Expedition 33" and "Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club," make it into the top 10 [4/21-5/4]

Sales ranking announced by Famitsu. This time we bring you a summary of estimated weekly sales figures for game software and hardware from April 21 to May 4, 2025 in Japan.

Due to the calculation period, the rankings are based on the combined totals for both weeks. Five of the top ten titles are new to this week's ranking. Taking the top spot is HUNDRED LINE - Final Defense Academy.

This is a completely new adventure game created by a collaboration between Tokyo Games and Aniplex, and is also a hot topic due to its extraordinary volume, with 100 endings. It has sold 26,732 units, making a good start.

Ranked 4th is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a turn-based RPG that incorporates action elements such as dodging and parrying enemy attacks. The story and characters are also appealing and it has been talked about as a French JRPG.

Ranked 7th is Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club: The Future Map of Excitement, the first visual novel game based on the anime, where you can enjoy school life with the heroines.

Next in ninth place is Technos the World Kunio-kun & Arcade Collection, a collection of 12 previously released titles by Technos Japan and in tenth place is the latest installment in the popular fighting game series, Fatal Fury City of the Wolves SPECIAL EDITION , both of which are recording strong sales.

Around the Network

to bring up prophet tbone’s bold projection, i think 40mil in JP is a lost cause. NSW would need 170-180wk of 25k/wk, which, seeing how Switch has fallen off, I don’t think this is realistic. 38-39mil is my LTD projection.

Switch avg 25-30k is still really good. I thought it would drop to 20k weekly after Switch 2 officially revealed. 10k for PS5 is not good

25K for Switch is great

Maintaining a base of 25K sales each week right before the launch of the most anticipated new system seems decent enough. Don't know if we should expect anymore than that in the near future really.

Also, it is clear we're kind of in the usual May lul when it comes to software sales because you kind of should usually expect more from of a few of these titles.

Week 17 is expected for the Switch though 18 is better than expected going above 30k again. Perhaps that's due to Golden Week since the PS5 went above 10k as well. Also hopefully digital and PC sales were high enough for Last Defense Academy since that's not exactly a great result after two weeks and I want that studio to stick around.

Solid opening for The Hundred Line: Last Defence Academy.

Hopefully it has legs, as the company behind it is in trouble and say they could go under if it's not a success.

Considering this was a holiday, it doesn't really look like either Switch or PS5 got much of a boost.  XBox on the other hand....

Looks like Xbox received a shipment of series S for Golden Week.

  • Xbox Series X: 57 (total 319,785)
  • Xbox Series X DE: 59 (total 20,235)
  • Xbox Series S: 2,414 (total 336,349)
