In a statement, Rockstar apologized for the significant delay to the game, expected to be the biggest entertainment launch of all time.

"We are very sorry that this is later than you expected," Rockstar said. "The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.

"With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.

The highly-anticipated sequel will now arrive on 26th May 2026, Rockstar announced today in a short statement.

No other information was announced by Rockstar today - and there's certainly no sign of a new GTA 6 trailer. Rockstar released GTA 6's first - and so far only - look at the game back in December 2023, at which point it was set for launch this year.

Eh, I think the gaming industry sets too much importance on this release. Sure, it is a big game and will get a lot of gamers. But it will not substantially change gaming, it will not draw in new gamers like the previous titles, because these are now gamers. Rockstar might be fidgety, because the hype is so unreal, no way they can stand up to it. Even if it is a great game, with hype that big many will be disappointed. But we will see. In a year from now.

Finally Devolver have a date to release some game.

Hope other publishers release games now instead of delaying to run away of GTA

2023 and 2024 were good, but 2025 is pretty barren. Metroid, Ghost of Yotei and Clair Obscure and the only games I'm looking forward this year

Also, funny how some publishers were delaying games, which now was for nothing.

We must be getting close to the PS6/XBoxNext, right? I guess many folks will be buying this in 2026…and then turning around and buying it again in 2027 or 2028 when they release the remaster.

Those + Assassin's Creed Shadows, Monster Hunter Wilds, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Xenoblade Chronicles X DE, Mario Kart World, Bravely Default HD and Elden Ring Nightreign, just from the top of my head, make this a bloated year already.
