Which Xbox shooter trilogy is best

Gears of War 10 34.48%

Halo 19 65.52%

Total:29

Going with Gears since I rarely play first person shooters. When it comes to first person shooter Borderlands is still my favorite series and my favorite first person shooter trilogy still have to beat the third one though. Haven't beaten all three games in either Gears or Halo trilogy. Probably will try to beat all three Gears games when they remaster 2 and 3 since I beat the original Gears game and Gears Ultimate Edition.

God damn this is a tough one! I personally have to go with Halo. Loved the first Gears and the marketing that led up to the games release, but the game ultimately was a massive tech demo to showcase what the 360 was capable of. 2 and 3 is where Gears hit the stratosphere in the storytelling department although they did lack more in the first games horror elements.

But Halo hit like a brick right at release. That main menu music, the multiplayer LAN parties, Master Chief, the Covenant, the biomes, all on this insanely cool ring floating in space. And somehow, Bungie vastly improved some aspect of the series with each new game. Halo 2 was my very first midnight launch and I didn't experience that kind of high again till Halo 3.

I only played Gears for the first time a couple of months ago, the original 360 version on a 360. So I can't really answer as I haven't played 2 or 3 yet. The first one was fine, but if I was just comparing Halo CE to Gears I'd go with Halo. The world of gears is interesting but the controls are awkward and most levels aren't that memorable. The having to switch to grenade instead of just holding and releasing a button was annoying and the cover system sometimes just wasn't doing what I wanted it to.

Performance on the original 360 version is also really bad (somehow even worse in cutscenes than gameplay), which really shows the different standards back then considering it got a 94 on metacritic. I played Gears on 360 just after finishing Assassin's Creed on 360, a game with regular fps drops so you would have thought I'd have been somewhat acclimatised but I found Gears performance to effect my enjoyment worse than AC's.

If we're widening out from just Halo vs Gears I have to give the shout to Mass Effect instead.

Oh man, the first Gears is by far the least favorite in the trilogy by the fanbase. By a considerable margin lol. You definitely haven't experienced Gears fully yet!

Halo. Just cause Halo CE is so good and was brilliant for its time, Halo 2 is okay and Halo 3 is good. Never took a liking to GoW apart from mildly liking the first game.

This is the easiest of easy, imo. When Xbox is done (and the way it's going lately, that could be next year), the platform will be remembered for two things: revolutionizing internet connectivity (for better or worse) and the original Halo trilogy.

Same here, the Mass Effect trilogy is one of the greatest in all of gaming, and the first two games were 360 console exclusives at launch.

Also, if we were to broaden the net to include the fourth games of each series, Halo Reach and Gears Judgement, then the race tightens a bit, as while I did think Judgement was a very good game and somewhat underrated, Reach is for my money the greatest game in the whole Halo series.
