Probably the single most predictable event in the entertainment industry so far this year. It's been one disaster after another, on top of no one asking for this to be made. The focus on live-action remakes in and on itself just shows that Disney have failed to understand the draw and charm of their own animated features to begin with. It's becoming clear that Disney needs new leadership across the board (pun intended), too many mistakes are being made way too often.

Really, the entire concept of Disney live-action remakes has an uphill battle from the start. Too similar to the old one, and people will complain that it's a pointless cash-grab. Change it to any significant degree, and you'll have people complaining that you're screwing around with a sacred classic.

Ironically, the Disney movies that would benefit most from a live-action remake are the mid-tier ones that had obvious flaws in their original release, such as The Aristocats, The Black Cauldron, or Oliver and Company. But then, Disney probably thought there wouldn't be enough audience interest in seeing those remade seeing how the originals were so... well, mid-tier.

You know which Disney movies could benefit from being remade in live-action?

NONE OF THEM!!!!! *covers Myrtle from Lilo and Stitch in chum and kicks the little bastard into shark infested waters, watching her get ripped to shreds*

Do people that get all worked up over this big mean boogeyman woke and dei stuff enjoy life?

Not really. They're addicted to outrage and victimhood. They top themselves up daily/weekly with a temporary indignant high but the mindset doesn't ultimately make them any happier so they keep coming back for their next fix.

And sometimes they storm the White House.

I love the classic animated Disney movies, and I feel like a huge part of the charm is precisely that they're animated.

A remake that nobody asked for that also suffered from a bunch of controversies. Yeah, I think everyone saw this one coming.

None of that charm is found in the remakes.

The Lion King 2019 is too similar in dialogue, the plot, and songs than the 1994 original. And it does nothing as well or better than the 1994 original either. The Lion King 2019 is the textbook example of a pointless cash grab. There are no humans in The Lion King, and they didn't even use any live-action nature shots except at the very beginning.

I haven't seen Snow White, but compared to the animated classic it seems to fit into the changing too much and screwing around with a sacred classic. But it's funny because Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs seems to have lost a lot of popularity in the last 15 or so years due to the technical aspects of the film aging more and more as well as the plot and characters feeling very dated.

I have a feeling the same whiners who probably never cared for the classic to begin with are some of the loudest people complaining about how woke and bad the remake is.

Really the better option would be to not do live-action remakes of animated movies to begin with.

If Disney wants strong female leads then they should do that in brand new movies, instead of just forcing them into older movies.

Case in point, to me, would be Moana which is one of my favorites of the recent era. It was really good and 2 was pretty decent as well.

Then there's the original badass Disney leading lady; Mulan. She's the reason all those huns met their end in that avalanche. Then there's what she did to Shan Yu. *pulls his charred skeleton out of the debris*

Back in 2012, Snow White and the Huntsman brought in $396.6 million on a budget of $170 million.

The reported $270 million budget for this year's remake apparently also doesn't take into account advertising costs, which The Hollywood Reporter puts at another $100 million or so.

So it cost $370 million or thereabouts in total, or double what it has managed to gross so far.
