Forums - Nintendo - Switch 2 pre orders in USA & Canada delayed while Nintendo assesses new tariffs.

Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser says that tariffs did not directly impact the console’s original price tag. “Put [the April 2nd announcement] aside. Any previous tariffs were not factored into the price itself,“

I've seen some say they thought the $449 pricetag was set already in anticipation of some tariffs but apparently not.

Doesn't surprise me. Switch 2 has a lot of tech crammed into it.

Nintendo have now delayed the pre-orders in Canada also.

“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025 in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S,” a Nintendo of Canada spokesperson stated. “Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.”

Video game companies stocks are taking a hammering, as are most other companies.

Over the last 5 days:

  • Nintendo: -10.78%
  • Ubisoft: -20.95%
  • EA: -6.18%
  • Take Two: -6.47%
  • Tencent: -13.87%
  • Sony: -21.09%
  • Capcom: -7.89%
  • Bandai Namco: -7.37%
  • Sega: -13.48%

Should have said thank you to America.

Who's this, and why does he look like a pedophile?

Switch 2 launch will not be as stellar as anyone would expect. With shorter pre-order time and high level of pricing uncertainty this will clearly affect sales, even if only in North America

Well that depends on what you expect. Some expect it to bomb hard.

104% tariffs on China. We're so doomed and I'm not even joking. Will China retaliate again and enrage the annoying orange to go for 200%?

im gonna go bold and make a prediction: Trump isn’t passing many/any of these tariffs. He’s just running the same charade as he did back in January/February/March. (Plus, if this truly is as big of a detriment for big tech companies (who practically own all of congress), then I do not see how the billionaire business-owner is legitimately considering this. It’s a negotiating strategy: make whoever you negotiate with think you’re crazy, and they’ll oblige. They don’t want crazy to engage with MAD. Ofc, if the state department wants this (in their current Cold War w/ China), then that wins…so I’m not 100% confident that nothing will happen.)

Well there's only 9 hours till they begin.

well, ig i won’t have long before I get humbled or proven right lol. He’s gonna hold out until the very last minute. (That, or he let’s them go through, but immediately resends them upon getting his desired deal.)
