Forums - Nintendo - The Donkey Kong Bananza thread: Out now exclusively on Switch 2

So, where does everyone think DK Bananza fits into the Mario timeline? Because there's no way that's the same Pauline as in the Donkey Kong arcade game, it's possible she's her granddaughter (she mentions her grandmother a few times in the game). And where does that leave Mario if Nintendo keeps insisting he's the same Mario from the original Donkey Kong?

The young Pauline being a different character theory isn't so far fetched, considering this old Japanese encyclopedia from 1994 released around the time of the GameBoy version of Donkey Kong. Here it says the original and DK 1994 Pauline are separate people.

To those who are far along in the game, how does the difficulty compare to Odyssey?

I actually found it a bit more challenging than Odyssey; I've definitely died more times in DKB so far than I did in my Odyssey playthrough.

It's no Tropical Freeze, but it's far from toothless.

Just beat the game.

Even though I was kinda spoiled on what happens endgame, it still managed to catch me off guard. And now getting started on the post-game stuff.

Yep, this game is fantastic! For starters, I LOVE DK's new design. I was caught off guard by it like everyone else was and thought, "Ehhh, let's see it in action first and then I'll make a judgement." Well, after seeing it in action for a full game, I am FULLY sold on this new character model for DK. It's the eyes. They're just SO much more expressive and you can do so much more with him that you couldn't do with the old Rare model.

Just about everything I could have hoped for in a 3D Donkey Kong game and really a Donkey Kong game in general. The best way I can really describe this game is - It's Super Mario Odyssey 2, but with Donkey Kong as the main character. And considering how Odyssey is also a fantastic game, I'd say that's a very high compliment for the ole Banana Slama!

The 3D Mario team just does not miss! Yet another jewel to add to their crown. And this game very much has me looking forward to what they have next. Whether it's Mario (most likely), DK, or perhaps another franchise or character? Maybe it's Yoshi's turn to get the 3D platformer treatment? Or perhaps a brand-new IP? Time will tell.

Donkey Kong is back! And he's bigger, faster, stronger, and better than ever!

DK Bananza to Mario Odyssey feels to me the same as Yoshi's Island to Super Mario World.

Clearly the same talent, but the implementation is very different and therefore refreshing. Well done. Fantastic game.

The sound logic would be to assume Pauline from the DK arcade is the grandmother actual Pauline is referring to. Young Pauline would become the mayor in Super Mario Odyssey, and DK is nowhere to be found so that adds up. Which means Pauline's grandma was the one who was kidnapped by Cranky Kong and rescued by Jumpman (Mario).

In Odyssey mayor Pauline says she was once kidnapped by an ape, but either that will be retconned because of her friendship with DK in Bananza, or she's now referring to Voidco, at least one of whom was an ape.

Great, as long as its not a cake walk I think I'll have a good time with it, going by reviews.

Yeah technically she was, by Void Kong. So either way Nintendo can retcon that story as much as they like

Also, anyone besides me notice how Void Kong's hair has a V shape on the top?
