In Odyssey mayor Pauline says she was once kidnapped by an ape, but either that will be retconned because of her friendship with DK in Bananza, or she's now referring to Voidco, at least one of whom was an ape.

Yeah technically she was, by Void Kong. So either way Nintendo can retcon that story as much as they like
