ps2.

I can play fifa 14 on ps2, a game released in 2013 on ps2, 3, 4 (therefore 5) and vita, among others. And to make a comparison based on Fifa games, take a look :

Last fifa game on snes was 98, so in 97, so just on time for N64 release or just after it, depends on where you are.
Last fifa game on ps1 was 2005 in 2004, so almost 2/2 and a half year before ps3 release (march 2007 in europe)
Last fifa game on ps2 was 14, in 2013, so when ps4 was there. That's right, if you were a fifa player only, you could fully skip ps3/360 era. And even more, you can play ps1 games on it so...
Last fifa game on ps3 was 19 in 2018, so 2 years before ps5.

And fifa games sell more than many other games.

Great shout!

I'd throw in Ducktales 2 and Darkwing Duck (ducks all around!) as a couple of other excellent post-SNES releases. The NES really did have an impressive second life even after its replacement.

Best - probably PS2
Worst - WiiU, Gamecube, Saturn...though competition here

SNES:
Donkey Kong Country 3 is my fav DK game of all time
Terranigma is potentially my most fav JPG of all time

Runner's up-
I have a feeling a lot of GBA games I own possibly got released when the DS game out too, but I can't come up with any examples. I just get the feeling lol. Same with DS and PS1. I never had a NES back in the day but I bought one (since) a few years ago. If I had one back then I would possibly have mentioned that too.
PS2 games kept coming out too, so I imagine the winner of this thread will be either NES or PS2. But personally, some of my fav games of all time came out at the end (or after) the SNES's life cycle, so I'm gonna vote SNES.

I have (or have/had in the household): ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amiga, NES, Sega Master System, Super Nintendo, Sega Megadrive, Gameboy, Playstation, Nintendo 64, Windows 95, Gameboy Colour, Windows 98, Sega Dreamcast, Gameboy Advance, PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, Windows XP, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360, Wii, PS3, Windows Vista, iPhone, Windows 7, 3DS, Wii U, PS4, Windows 10, PSVR, Switch, PS5 & PSVR2. :D

and I Don't have: Magnovox Odyssey, Any Atari's, Any Macintosh computers, Sega Gamegear, Virtual Boy, Sega Saturn, N-gage, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PSP, PSVita & Andoid Phone. Plus any non-mainstream consoles/platforms I haven't mentioned.

Wii was very rough as well. Just Dance was about it.

Pandora's Tower (which I haven't played) launched in 2013 in North America, but it launched before Wii U's launch in other major regions.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 40 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

On a second thought, the GBA's library post-DS was pretty excellent for a couple of years:

  • DK: King of Swing
  • Donkey Kong Country 3
  • Drill Dozer
  • Final Fantasy IV/V/VI Advance
  • Gunstar Super Heroes
  • Mario Tennis: Power Tour
  • Mega Man Battle Network 5 & 6
  • Mega Man Zero 4
  • Mother 3
  • Namco Museum 50th Anniversary
  • Pokemon Mystery Dungeon
  • Rhythm Tengoku
  • Tales of Phantasia

This is not counting games that were localized late like Minish Cap and Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones.

Wii did also get Skylanders games in 2013-2015, Disney Infinity in 2013, and Rodea the Sky Soldier in 2015, but yeah not that much else sadly.

Correct. I figured Skylanders and Disney Infinity were there but had no idea Rodea even existed.

Heck, when you consider how much Wii sold it's kind of sad that even GameCube didn't have a way worse post-replacement lineup. Twilight Princess was only day and date with Wii in Japan, coming out after the Wii version in all other regions. Madden NFL 08 didn't get particularly glowing reviews on GameCube but got some critical acclaim on Xbox 360 and PS3.

I think the reason GBA had a strong lineup is because it took until about 2006 for Nintendo to publicly acknowledge DS as the official successor to GBA. DS was risky since Game Boy Advance wasn't even 4 years old when DS launched, and it was one of the fastest-selling platforms ever. But DS made a big impact with its software and the rest is history.

I saw one of your earlier posts highlighting Xbox 360 and yes Xbox 360 had a strong lineup even after it was replaced. Xbox was nervous about Xbox One even after some course correcting and it wouldn't make sense to have 360 software dry up to nothing as early as late 2013 to early 2014.

PS2.

Persona 4 is my most memorable game from it post PS3 release.
