I'm still very early but I just popped on for a few minutes to have a go at a boss I skipped, The Wandering Wight and I beat him rather easily, he was no where near as strong ad I thought.

Many have said that this is the Genichiro moment of the game and it all clicks after you defeat the big baby and you gey a skill that is eff3ctive the whole way through the game. I felt nothing. There was no joy in beating him, I am left wondering what is the deal with the hype for this game, Surely this isn't the God Of War/DMC/Bayonetta killer that people were hyping.

There is no parry, to block, transformations are CDs like in an RPG/MMO, invisible walls, yhe staff blurs the player character area to hide artificating, boss gauntlet feel, the combat feels floaty and at times unresponsive like doge doesn't work in certain conditions. The stanima meter is pointless etc. I dont get it, after Stellar Blade over the last few months this feels like a much lesser game in the genre. They have a map now and I can only imagine the FOMO from playing at launch and checking every invisible wall.

I am going to stick with it and hopefully it all clicks into place but so far it's much more like a more difficult FF16 than it is like the astounding Stellar Blafe and juggernaut Sekiro.

What am I missing? Below is supposed to be a boss, I recorded because it was the most pathetic boss I've ever encountered.

When I met my wife and fell in love all other women lost their shine as she was the sun and they were merely stars. It's wonderful that you've found such a feeling for Stellar Blade but you should probably take that into account when judging other games.

...

Tap square, square, square nonsense...

What does this mean? Should I marry Stellar Blade?

... I kinda like that idea.

I don't think it's overrated, the reviews gave it fair scores, which are low-80s i.e. decent, but not really that good

Also, it's better than Stellar Blade

I mean the general hype. It was nominated for GOTY and won the peoples choice at TGA and I believe it won a Golden Joystivk. Lots of post launch hype.

Also, Stellar Blade is better.

I only saw hype before the game, because the graphics looked stellar and the combat fun and fast paced because of the trailers, after the release most of the hype died off. Even the success of the game was very chinese-centric, as we can see by the steam peak hours

After the release, the consensus it was a solid game, but not exactly GOTY material

I don't need to play Wukong to see that it's grossly overrated by the "anti-woke" crowd. AstroBot got hated on for "robbing" GOTY from a goddamned 80 scored video game. I didn't see as much animosity from Rebirth and Metaphor fans.

BUT... I've watched enough videos to appreciate the narrative and artistic charm. I really liked the character designs and portrayal. The game had a strong sense of poetry. Combat doesn't look great but it goes without saying I'd have to play it myself to confirm. I didn't think FF7 Remake's combat looked particularly good before I played it years later. Sekiro didn't seem "GOAT tier" either until I played it.

If it's not clicking with you, it doesn't matter what everyone else says. Everyone swore Ys8 was an incredible game... and then I played it lol.

Edit: Speaking of the devil, I just got a reply to a Youtube comment I made a week ago:

"Stellar Blade and Wukong stomp it (AstroBot)"

Perhaps it's a message for LegitHyperbole and KratosLives to shake hands!

It got nominated for GOTY so it had that potential to people and press. There was and still is massive hype for the game and I don't speak Mandarin so this must be western hype.

I paid no attention to it all, but it just looks overrated.
