Forums - Gaming Discussion - gamrConnect presents: Their 944 Greatest Games, as of 2024

Wow, that's a lot of work you've put in there. Many thanks for the effort - no issues at all with it being late when it's all as well presented as this.

Around the Network

Stat comparison time, affected ever so slightly by my unique format were I listed games from my childhood, teens and adult years.

- 22 games from my list made it into the combined top 100, down from 26 last year.

- 8 games from my top 10 made it into the top 100 - double that of last year! Tales of Vesperia and Doki Doki Literature Club were the only exceptions

- 3 games from the combined top 10 were (officially) included in my list, pretty sure that's the lowest ever.

- Unlike the last three years there was no overlapping games between my own top 10 and the combined top 10.

- Skyrim was the game I have closest to the combined list (I have it at #26, combined it's #22) with Portal close behind (#47 for me, #42 on the combined)

- Of the top 100 games I've played 95 of them (up from 91 last year), including the full top 50. That does include 2 games I've only tried for a bit though.

- And finally 12 games were "unique" to my list this time. Double up from last year.

  • Lego Star Wars: The Video Game (#48)
  • Sonic Heroes (#46)
  • Ty the Tasmanian Tiger (#45)
  • Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness (#44)
  • Dragon Ball Z: Legendary Super Warriors (#43)
  • Mario Party 4 (#42)
  • Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (#41)
  • Taz: Wanted (#40)
  • The Talos Principle (#33)
  • The Witcher (#32)
  • APB: Reloaded (#25)
  • OMORI (#13)

Can't believe you guys didn't list those!

2025 OpenCritic Prediction Leagues

@UnderwaterFunktown inspired me to copy him

  • 32 games from my top 50 list made it into the top 100
  • 9 games from my top 10 made it into the top 100 (poor Deus Ex; you guys need to play that!)
  • 4 games from my top 10 made it into the overall top 10
  • Games that only I voted for:
    • Darius Gaiden
    • Chained Echoes

I would really love to replay a bunch of games in my top 50 over the next 9 months to determine if they're worthy of staying on the list, but with so many new releases it's hard to find time. I do know for sure my 2025 list with have at least one new entry: Astro Bot.

Great work!

And while I didn't expect it, I can be happy, as Ocarina of Time reclaims its rightful place at the very top of the list.

Ah trust me, every list has a significant impact, especially in a year like this where we had fewer entrants.

I'm not sure about it being its rightful place, but, I'm sure many will find it fitting given that it's potentially the last event (hopefully not). Ocarina of Time stayed at #2 for many years and it was just getting closer and closer each time. It's now equalled Breath of the Wild's record of finishing first 7 times (the other winner was Super Mario 64 in 2016).

- Games from my list in the top 10 - 6
- Games from my list in the top 50 - 16
- Games from my list in the top 100 - 23
- Games from my list no one else voted for - 12 - which were as below

#328 - Tomb Raider (1996)
#433 - Dino Crisis 2
#502 - Powerslave
#532 - Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (1999)
#612 - Tomb Raider III
#637 - Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
#679 - Dino Crisis
#697 - Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
#731 - Doom II
#749 - Castlevania: Circle of the Moon
#861 - Alundra
#875 - Space Station: Silicon Valley

Once again, great work on your list @mZuzek and for your patience.  One recommendation I'm most confident would reach your Top 50 (if you played it) would be Outer Wilds.

Be sure to get the Archaeologist Edition so you can play through the expansion alongside the base game for the best ending to come full circle.

This has been an incredible tradition, and although this may be the final year, I'm glad it's been held for so long.

Yeah, a friend of mine tried getting me into it once and it didn't work out, but maybe I just need to play it on my own. It seems like a great game, I'm interested in it, just hasn't happened yet.

Also did some counting;

  • Number of games of my list in Top 100: 15
  • Number of games of my list in Top 50: 13
  • Number of games of my list in Top 10: 6

My list appears to be quite front heavy, with quite a few games being high up in the list. For example the '15' number for number of games in the Top 100, includes the '13' that made it to the Top 50. So, only 2 games were in spots 51 to 100.

  • Number of games from my list's Top 10 in overal Top 100: 6

Half of these are also games that are in the overal Top 10 (The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild).

  • Number of games unique to my list: 23
    • Blast Corps
    • Star Wars: Dark Forces
    • Dynamite Cop!
    • Empire: Total War
    • Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire
    • Star Wars Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire
    • Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force
    • Crazy Taxi
    • SimCity 3000
    • Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness
    • Resident Evil: Revelations
    • SimTower: The Vertical Empire
    • Motocross Madness
    • Total War: Rome II
    • Call of Duty
    • Prince of Persia (1989)
    • Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II
    • Kula World (Rollaway)
    • The Operative: No One Lives Forever
    • Astérix (Asterix: The Gallic War)
    • MediEvil
    • Anno 1602 (1602 A.D.)
    • RollerCoaster Tycoon 2

So, almost half my list consisted of unique games! Quite a bunch. Though some are niche games, some are also pretty well known. I mean, things like the original Prince of Persia or MediEvil deserve more votes if you asked me. I’m also the sole voter on four Star Wars games. In conclusion, I guess you can say my list has either unique games on it, or at the top the ones that are super popular.

EDIT: Had major brainfart about the Top 10 yesterday apparently.
