To put things into perspective, Mario Wonder sales would make it the biggest PS5 game in terms of copies sold.

Sadly we don't have actual confirmation of total sales from Sony games, but it's very likely both Gran Turismo 7 and God of War Ragnarok are above it.
GT7 based on GT Sport sales pattern from the Insomniac leak and the confirmation that is the series highest grossing title.
And God of War Ragnarok was at 11M sales at 3 months and 15M back at November 2023.
Both those games have PS4 versions so if you mean only sales on PS5 yeah, even as it's nearly impossible to know the split between PS4 and PS5.
Spider Man 2 was at 11M back at April 2014 so I don't know if it has reached 15.5M by now, but must be close.

Nintendo wants to sell games. And Pokémon is one of the biggest franchises ever overall. No way in hell they're gonna exclude 155- 160 million users, especially if Switch really made it past the PS2 and becomes the Nr.1 selling console of all time! Also Pokémon was never the franchise known for being hardwarehungry if you know what i mean! Economically it would be complete nonsense to release exclusively on a plattform barly over a year old with a maximum of 20 million users while excluding 155- 160 million users...

Having a big install base is not that important for Nintendo to be able to sell a lot of copies of a game, given that their big games tend to be evergreen sellers. BOTW didn't sell badly just because it launched when the Switch had an install base of 0.
Furukawa himself has stated that exclusive games will be crucial for the success of Switch 2, and Pokemon is one of their big franchises, so of course Nintendo themselves would want that game to be exclusive. Switch 1 is already getting their last big Pokemon game in Legends Z-A this year.
Not to mention, stronger hardware is the only way for Pokemon games to get a lift in terms of performance and fidelity, to have gen 10 be hamstrung by the Switch would make gen 10 on the same level as Scarlet and Violet. While a Switch 2 gen 10 would be obvious to everyone that its not on the level of Scarlet and Violet in any way.

And he already said there will be new games for Switch 1 as well! I don't think we know better than him.
Nintendo Handhelds are known for their long support. You don't seriously believe, a handheld that will be in production till 2027 won't recieve a single first party game in 2026?! Sony did the same with the PS1 and the PS2. Heck even the PS3 got Persona 5 in April 2017. No way, that Switch won't get anything in 2026. In 2027 smaller 3rd party games at least!

Pokemon games are not evergreen like other Nintendo titles. They usually sells for the existing userbase (the biggest Nintendo launches are mostly compromised of Pokemkn games) and stop selling when a new entry gets released. Releasing early will absolutely hurt the sales. A new Pokemon exclusive is not going to happen until at least Q4 2026, and 2027 is not off the tables either

To put things into perspective, Nintendo Switch has 149M units sold while PS5 has 71M.
I don't think Gen 10 will be cross-gen. They will want these games to be the reason for people (especially Pokémon fans) to buy the Switch 2. I see spin-off games like Mystery Dungeon or Detective Pikachu being cross-gen, though

I am with you here! Skipping 155- 160 million users and Investors would jump off!

The quote doesn't rule out MP4 being crossgen. Whether it is or not remains to be seen. Maybe, maybe not. Nintendo is clearly choosing to keep Switch 2 software plans under wraps until the April 2nd Direct. |
Right, the part of the quote, "launching exclusive games for Nintendo Switch 2 is essential for its success" doesn't speak to whether Switch 1 will still get exclusives. You could take it equally as him hinting that Switch 2 needs exclusives in addition to cross-gen titles.
Playing Xenoblade 2 before I buy Xenoblade 3 (otherwise I couldn't wait to play 3).
Can they announce a new Fire Emblem? A remake of Genealogy or Tellius would suffice !
