Having a big install base is not that important for Nintendo to be able to sell a lot of copies of a game, given that their big games tend to be evergreen sellers. BOTW didn't sell badly just because it launched when the Switch had an install base of 0. Furukawa himself has stated that exclusive games will be crucial for the success of Switch 2, and Pokemon is one of their big franchises, so of course Nintendo themselves would want that game to be exclusive. Switch 1 is already getting their last big Pokemon game in Legends Z-A this year. Not to mention, stronger hardware is the only way for Pokemon games to get a lift in terms of performance and fidelity, to have gen 10 be hamstrung by the Switch would make gen 10 on the same level as Scarlet and Violet. While a Switch 2 gen 10 would be obvious to everyone that its not on the level of Scarlet and Violet in any way. |
And he already said there will be new games for Switch 1 as well! I don't think we know better than him.
Nintendo Handhelds are known for their long support. You don't seriously believe, a handheld that will be in production till 2027 won't recieve a single first party game in 2026?! Sony did the same with the PS1 and the PS2. Heck even the PS3 got Persona 5 in April 2017. No way, that Switch won't get anything in 2026. In 2027 smaller 3rd party games at least!
