Having a big install base is not that important for Nintendo to be able to sell a lot of copies of a game, given that their big games tend to be evergreen sellers. BOTW didn't sell badly just because it launched when the Switch had an install base of 0.

Furukawa himself has stated that exclusive games will be crucial for the success of Switch 2, and Pokemon is one of their big franchises, so of course Nintendo themselves would want that game to be exclusive. Switch 1 is already getting their last big Pokemon game in Legends Z-A this year.

Not to mention, stronger hardware is the only way for Pokemon games to get a lift in terms of performance and fidelity, to have gen 10 be hamstrung by the Switch would make gen 10 on the same level as Scarlet and Violet. While a Switch 2 gen 10 would be obvious to everyone that its not on the level of Scarlet and Violet in any way.

Pokemon games are not evergreen like other Nintendo titles. They usually sells for the existing userbase (the biggest Nintendo launches are mostly compromised of Pokemkn games) and stop selling when a new entry gets released. Releasing early will absolutely hurt the sales. A new Pokemon exclusive is not going to happen until at least Q4 2026, and 2027 is not off the tables either

I am with you here! Skipping 155- 160 million users and Investors would jump off!
