Forums - Sales Discussion - Nintendo Quarterly Sales Update: Switch at 150.86m shipped, Mario Party Jamboree at 6.17m

So the Switch 1 is just 3.16 million units away from tying the DS.

3.16, eh?

@RolStoppable any updates for Switch sales with this quarter's results being in? I assume all eyes are on whether this quarter's results coming under expectation (probably due to undershipment) will affect the system's trajectory.

There's no undershipment in the holiday quarter because we've heard nothing of shortages anywhere. Shipments are pretty much on point - meaning no overshipment either - when we consider Nintendo's revised forecast of 11m for the fiscal year; they need another 1.56m which they are confident in. At the same time we can tell that don't believe in the next-highest incremental step of 11.5m which would be 2.06m for the final quarter.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

That IGN review must have hurt Mario and Luigi's sales.

150 million sold without a price cut is insane to be honest. It is undoubtedly the most successful console ever. And the first party software sales are in a whole other level.

It will be practically impossible for Nintendo to keep this level of success. I believe the Switch 2 will be to the Switch 1 what the SNES was to the NES. Successful with a lot of great third party software but an overall decline.

I'm not sure if they're going to hit even 11 mill this fiscal year, but hey it is what it is for a system this old. Next year is going to be interesting then, what would be a realistic forecast? 6 million? 5.5 million? No question the launch of the Switch 2 and the start of the Switch 2 marketing cycle on Apr. 2nd is going to lead to a large decline.

I am afraid this takes longer than you think... There is even an outside chance that Nintendo could potentialy announce a price drop for the Switch as they just said they're gonna keep supporting it after the Switch 2 is out...

When do you think the Swich will surpass the DS? If it manages to hit the 1.46 million forecast for the current quarter, the Switch will be at 152.33 million and it will need to sell more than 1.69 million from April to June to reach the DS. Maybe if sales drop a lot, the Switch will surpass the DS only in FY2025/26 Q2

Sometime in summer the Switch will kick the DS. I think Nintendo could even announve it when it was to happen.

Sometime in the June/July timeframe is likely, within Switch 2's launch quarter

It actually sold pretty decent for the franchise. I think it will end up being the second best selling M&L game after Bowsers Inside Story.
