Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Switch 2 officially announced, switch 2 direct 2nd of April

Wish they showed a couple more games in the trailer, similar to Switch 1 which had clips of Zelda, Skyrim, Mario, Mario Kart, NBA & Splatoon but overall a fine reveal. Being an iterative successor, it’s obviously not going to have the same wow factor.

Hopefully it has a similar reveal to launch timeline as Switch 1 which was
Switch 1
Reveal Trailer-Oct 20
Press Event-Jan 13
Launch-March 3

Switch 2
Reveal Trailer-Jan 16
Direct-April 2
Launch-late May/early June???

Mouse mode tells me: Potential Mario Paint successor?

I also thought the new Mario Kart looked too similar to MK8, now 11 years old, in the graphics department. But between doubling the number of characters onscreen and what looks to me to be much more expansive worlds to drive through, it does still require a lot more of the hardware than MK8 does.

In terms of the hardware, I'm glad Nintendo is not fixing what isn't broken since that would just be repeating their mistakes with the Wii U, but since the hardware is "a better Switch" I really need to see actual games to get truly excited.

March 2025 as a release date is officially canned at this point! I think the earliest we could get it is now May 08, 2025. But again LOOOL at all the 2023/ 2024 shouters back from 2019!!🤣😂

I have a summer birthday. I'm thinking I might try to ask for Switch 2 as a combined birthday and Christmas gift.
Nintendo has done what so many of us have wanted: a numbered name and a more powerful Switch. Let's hope they deliver in the games, because droughts will feel brutal if they don't. I don't want those days to return.
Unsurprising that Mario Kart was the game shown. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the top game on Switch.

Nate has said the system has FF7 Rebirth, MGS Delta, Assassin's Creed Shadows, and MS Flight Simulator 2024 coming ... these are all PS5 or XBS exclusives, if it's getting ports of all these games (probably many more too, Gotham Knights is another PS5/XBS series only game that's supposedly coming), that would imply the chipset is capable enough. I mean shit, a lot of people had FF7 Rebirth as their PS5 Game of the Year just a few weeks ago.

Rebirth is a true PS5 game, to the point where it's not even a great experience on Base PS5 visually in performance mode.
If Switch 2 can get that game without it being too much of a hassle/expensive to port, then I'm pretty confident that anything goes, and it won't commonly miss out on big third party releases, like Switch 1 did.

I wouldn't say it's a true PS5 game. It was built with last-gen tech that has allowed the devs to down tune it to the point the game now being able to be labelled as "Verified" on the Steam Deck. A PC that has the power of a launch PS4.

Unreal Engine has just never been kind to open world games.

Yeah, Rebirth got Deck verified just today so it bodes well.

As for me, I'm hoping Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5, 2.8 and 3+ReMind become actual released games rather than cloud streaming.

KH on the go, I'll do myself a new marathon (even though I'm doing one technically....).

Is that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Remastered? It definitely just looks like MK8 but on a new track lol. I'll still buy it again.

Yeah I definitely noticed it doesn't look like a generational graphical upgrade, and pretty much just looks like MK8D to me. But I think that's just because with the cartoon art style of MK graphics simply aren't gonna get much better than they already are. I'm sure there will be some small graphical details we'll notice are better and maybe more stuff in the backgrounds, stuff like that, but cartoon style aesthetic is pretty close to maxed out already with Switch graphics. Resolution bumps will make a difference but actual graphical fidelity isn't gonna improve that much for that art style because there isn't really anything to improve much.

It's actually not even close to maxed out with Switch graphics. Just imagine a future Mario Kart or 3D Mario game with visuals comparable in quality to the Mario film. That won't happen this decade or the next but eventually it'll be a reality.

Whatever happens, I want to see a game like Luigi's Mansion 3 being made with the same engine/visual style. Luigi's Mansion 4 hopefully will look like that but with better performance and assets.
