Ho-ly Shit.

A clean sweep!

The rest of the world is a different story, but in the homeland, Nintendo runs as close to a monopoly as one could get in the hardware market. The Switch will continue to sell and perform over there for as long as they allow it.

So I assume it's going to be the usual two weeks until we get the last week of 2024 and first week of 2025 at the same time?

Speaking of Week 51, 52, 53 shenanigans. The next Famitsu report won't be untill january 13th, so we're gonna have to wait a while.

Isn't the report always coming on thursdays ? So January 10th rather than 13th ?

Actually, it's not really always on Thursdays, with very few exceptions, and post-holiday reports are one of them.

I checked the article on the Famitsu website, it says "次回のソフト&ハード週間販売数は、2025年1月13日(月)公開予定です。" at the end.

FYI, it means "The next software and hardware weekly sales numbers will be released on Monday, January 13, 2025".

That clean Top 30 sweep is just big at a moment like this. Despite its age, it's evergreena and even some 3rd party ones still do well enough to not even let a single PS5 SKU be in the mix.

Considering some of the high profile games they had release you'd think they'd at least get one or two in there ...

Anywoo, it's clear the inherent shift to a stronger digital presence on their platform and the FTP games did help in this but honestly it's just mind boggling in a sense.

Wow, another 30/30 clean sweep for the Switch.  Not even the PS5 version of DQ3 could make the top 30 while the Switch version is still sitting at #2.

I believe it's been 3-4 years since Switch had it's last 30/30 week, but there is a big difference this time.  If we go back 3-4 years, then PS5 was a new system, PS4 was being phased out, and Switch would have been near it's peak in sales and popularity.  This year PS5 is near its peak in popularity and Switch is about to be replaced by Switch 2.  This is really not a good year for Playstation to get get 0 games in the top 30.

I've always been curious: What does that <80-100%> or <60-80%> (or wtvr else) mean? On the OP?

How much of shipment is sold.

Given that the Wii U with a lower install base than PS5 still managed to release 4 games that sold more than 1 million copies in Japan, while PS5 as of now has 0 games that have sold 1 million copies in Japan i think its likely that PS5 is mostly just used as a Gacha Genshin machine in Japan. And given that Sony as a whole is going in a GAAS direction with most of their budgets now being directed to GAAS games it seems that the Switch 2 generation will see a near complete domination of classic single player games being bought on the Switch 2, with PS5 at that point just being entirely reduced to a Mihoyo machine.

And this is the reason Sony does not want to subsidize their hardware any longer. 80% of Free to Play GAAS players do not spend money to make up for the loss on hardware.
