Forums - Sony Discussion - Will the PS5 Break a PlayStation Tradition?

Tagged games:

So far there is only one first party PlayStation franchise that has appeared on every PS home console from the PS1 to the PS5. Currently that franchise is Gran Turismo.

However there is one other franchise that has the potential to beat GT but has yet to appear on PS5. Everybody's Golf (formerly known as Hot Shots Golf in the US) is the only franchise to appear on every PS Console and Handheld so far. It has GT beat because GT never released on the Vita, while Everybody's Golf did.

But four years into the PS5 lifecycle and there is no sign of an Everybody's Golf game. So will the streak be broken?

Clap Hanz is the developer behind the series. They are a very small company with only 22 employees. They pretty much just make golf and tennis games. There recent releases have been golf games for Meta VR and IOS.

Will they work with Sony to make a PS5 version of Everybody's Golf? The series' popularity has fallen off but it is still more successful in Japan than a lot of other Sony 1st party games. They could make a version for PSVR2 potentially?

Do you think it will happen to keep tradition alive?

I'd give it 51/49. Everybody's Golf has waned in popularity a lot but surely it can't cost much money to make one.
Some key games like Spider-Man, God of War, Gran Turismo, Ratchet & Clank, Horizon, and the like are already on PS5. There's plenty of room to release a PS5 Everybody's Golf whether it's before or after PS6 launches.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 40 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

The gap since the last PlayStation release from Clap Hanz doesn't make it look promising.

I don't really care for the golf games, but I'd love a new Everybody's Tennis - the PSP title was very addictive.

Sony shutdown Japan studio, thus ending the partnership. There will be no new everybody's golf in my opinion, shame.

(Sorry, this is only about VR.)

I doubt it

I hope so. I loved the last one.

Traditions are there to be broken I guess, the NSW was the first Nintendo console without a dedicated Mario Kart since there was hardware technically feasible to make them. Gameboy probably couldn't handle it. I don't count MK8 DX as a dedicated MK title. Sony already killed Wipeout on PS4 or basically gave us a DX version of Wipeout HD.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Its the question how many "firsts" will release exclusivley for the PS5 as most of them where wasted on cross gen for PS4 (the biggest mistake Sony did). And what replaced PS4 is death enemy PC. Why release games on this useless plattform?! Keep them fucking exclusive! MS commited suicide through that. PS is still doing fine but its already down YoY ww in its 4th (!) year wich is uncomon for a Sony system. No wonder Sony said it already entered the 2nd half of its lifecycle already by january 2023!!

It's always possible. You don't need Clap Hanz to make it. The original game was from Camelot. The formula and styling are all already there: it just needs a competent team to work on it.

I can't see it happening at this point, IP isn't what it once was and sales are very region-focused (Japan) which isn't a region Sony particularly cares about anymore.

It'll become one of those IP's like Twisted Metal that *used* to be on every Sony console but has fallen by the wayside.

Which is a shame. I'd love to be wrong.

It'll be tied with Gran Turismo, Ratchet & Clank and God of War as being on "almost" every Sony machine!
