do you think it is “sad and pathetic” when ppl get excited over teaser trailers? B/c that’s pretty much what you’re saying here. I don’t know what point you’re trying to make by asking me to show where you explicitly called these game reveals “masterclasses”. My intent was to provide examples of game reveals which generally are considered to be among the greatest in recent memory. Same could be said about it Smash Bros Ultimate back in March 2018: No gameplay, only a glimpse, yet so impactful.

Again: I didn't say that people feeling excitement about X or Y is sad or pathetic. Please, it's the second time in the same thread that you put words in my mouth that are not mine.

What you said: “The fact that the only thing this trailer has to make people excited about the game is the studio’s self inserted resume is frankly quite pathetic and sad…”

(so yes, you actually did say “people feeling excitement about X or Y is sad and pathetic”. Substitute ‘X’ for ‘game reveals in which the only thing shown is the dev studio behind it’, and this is your og comment.)

Here’s my point: In order for you to make such a claim, it is necessary that you believe game trailers need more than a dev’s resume in order to be worthy of excitement. Otherwise, it’s “pathetic and sad”. So, I am asking the question: What is necessary for a trailer to be worthy of excitement w/o being “sad and pathetic”? Because the way it sounds to me is that game reveals such as SSBU, FFVII Remake, and (especially) Emio should all be considered “pathetic and sad” excitement since they don’t show much other than a name & a dev/publishing studio. Where are you drawing the line btwn reveals worthy of excitement and not? And why?

People get excited by their favourite studios announcing new games all the time, they also get excited by CG trailers that tell us nothing, some even get excited by only a title card, Lmao. It doesn't really bother me, the industry is negative enough as it is, let people be excited by things, Naughty Dog is a studio with millions of adoring fans so of course when they announce something new, it's going to generate excitement based on their name alone, if From Software released a 5 second teaser for their next game tomorrow you'd have thousands of people trying to decipher everything about it and jumping for joy at a new From Software title being announced, Lol. Calling it pathetic and sad is harsh, Imo.

Just a clarification: I never called the people being excited by the trailer any of those things. People can be excited by whathever they want. My words were adressing the trailer itself and the intentions behind the people making it. The sad and pathetic thing is that they have put together a 4 + minutes trailer of a new IP with no gameplay or actual story in it, but got out of their way to list the entire Naughty Dog resume, knowing very well that it's the only redeeming quality about the video.

Or at least that's how I see it. Obviously, people can be excited by the graphics, by the protagonist or by the glorified compact disk player. I don't really care.

Ah, I misread it in that case then and upon rereading it with your clarification I can see that is what you meant now, my bad.

But as for the clarification, I don't really mind that either, Lol. Never really bothered me how or when a developer announces their game as long as it's their decision (not the publishers) as at the end of the day it is their game and there are actually decent reasons for announcing titles early too, a major one being hiring purposes, I tend to just forget about the games until they show them again, Lol.

From the trailer we saw amazing graphics, a somber atmosphere and sound, excellent art direction and design.

We were left with a mistery of 600 years about that planet, probably getting a banger soundtrack and get to wonder how can Naughty Dog do when it comes to sword fighting gameplay.

There is a lot to make me excited, and sure being developed by a studio that has nearly a 100% ratio of great games since they came to Playstation is one of them too.

I've seen similar caliber graphics in many other titles this generation. More of that does not exactly make me drop my jaw in excitement. Atmosphere and art are "realistic space cinematics 101" to me, but I guess to each their own. Sound is... ok, I guess? What qualifies as "excellent sound" in a trailer to you? Are you talking about the music? Because if so, I guess the retro music is cool. Not that it makes me excited about the game...

Hmm... I don't know. That "mystery" is completely decontextualized and has no meaning to me at all.

I'm sorry for not being intrigued about finding out how good a triple A studio that has been doing action games for 30 years can be at making a sword combat system. I don't know, maybe if they actually had SHOWN how it plays I would have something to be excited about.

But the truth is, they haven't shown a game. They have shown a random cinematic of their game, with zero gameplay and little to no plot. It's in space, it has a girl as a protagonist, there is a mysterious planet and some alien she's about to cut with a laser sword. That's it.

You said the only thing there to make "people" excited was ND name, I gave you some reasons why it excited me, if you agree or not is beyond the point you tried to make, as I and others have voiced said reasons you said we, the people, would not have.

Upon reading your other replies, can I ask you what did you think about the new Onimusha, Okami and Fumito Ueda game announcements? Pathetic and sad as well? Or are you perhals excited to know more about any of those, by any chance?

I don't know man, people wasting their time to complain about the existence of teaser trailers seems more pathetic and sad to me, but each to their own, I suppose.

I don't care much about ND games after Jak, so I'm not really their target audience.

That said, as I already commented elsewhere - "Verisimilitude is the word here - I completely believe in character of Pvt. Jennette Vasquez from Aliens being total badass. This one - not so much."

I rewatched the trailer again and yeah... i really dont like it.

I noticed that game remember "No More Heroes" a lot. Weapon, design, enemies, etc. In other words I dont saw nothing "innovative" until now. Well, lets see in the future when they release more trailers and gameplays.

I mean, one is from a pretty long, well written, directed and acted 2 hour film. This was a few minute trailer that barely shows an obvious bounty hunter, hunting a bounty.

I expected RDR2 main character to be a generic cowboy dude from the trailers, a lot did and yet, look what we got.

Hmm, pie.

No, I didn't say anything about what people should find or not find exciting. What I said is sad and pathetic was not showing any gameplay or story on your new IP reveal (just by watching the trailer you can't even tell what genre the game will be) and rely entirely on reminding people of your reputation to try to get them excited about it. That's all I said. That's what I find sad and pathetic. You can disagree with me and that's totally fine. But if you insist in lying and putting words in my mouth, I'm gonna have to start ignoring you from now on.

My initial comment was more in line with "they are showing a completely new IP with no gameplay or plot exposition, but they made sure to slap their resume on the trailer. That's sad". Usually, when you reveal a new IP you want to tell people what the game is about, what genre it is, etc. That's how people know they are interested. Can you be excited about the graphics and the 80s song? Absolutely, I never told you to not be excited. My response to you was aimed to explain why (to me) those things are secondary in terms of showing a new IP.
