All three current platforms selling well this week by their own standards. The temporary PS5 price cut gave it a much needed helping hand.
Mario Party Jamboree is a beast, can't wait to see its sales when Nintendo releases their Q3 report.
Norion said: Good week for the PS5 with it surprisingly being up YoY. With that notable sale having ended the next week might be lower though it will still likely reach 1.5m for the year which potentially looked of reach back in October. The Switch is up compared to the 49th week last year but the 50th week that year is more aligned date wise so it's actually starting December down so that previous week might've just been a one off. It's only down somewhat though and is for sure reaching 3m which is very impressive for its age.
I dunno if the Switch 2 will have that much impact on it. The PS5 will likely be about 4.5 years old when it comes out and will have sold over 60% of its final sales total already so it seems too late for its trajectory to be changed in a major way. |
Switch 2 probably won’t affect the PS5 too much in Japan if only because of its age. The Switch 2 will do its own thing and 3rd parties will be welcome to join it or not. Even then, Monster Hunter Wilds (and maybe GTA VI) is likely the only game that can really salvage anything for PS5 in terms of hardware and software sales in Japan in 2025. After that, if the Switch 2 has a solid launch lineup and release schedule post-launch then there’s not much the PS5 can do to challenge it in Japan.

Oh yeah the Switch 2 is gonna absolutely dominate the console space in Japan of course. I'd say the PS6 will be impacted more by it since the Switch 2 should have even better Japanese third party support than the Switch and in general be powerful enough to satisfy more people. PC should have a much bigger impact on the PS6 though.

It's the holidays, couple with a good discounts. Loads of high profile games from the year are bound for slight comebacks

True, but usually the games making a holiday comeback are Switch games. PS5 actually has a couple games that got a mini revival this time around.
curl-6 bet me that PS5 + X|S sales would reach 56m before year end 2023 and he was right.
My Bet With curl-6

DQ3 hit 1 million physical copies from all consoles in Japan alone!
Jamboree should reach that milestone eventually. Perhaps sometime in February.
