Dragon quest 3 remake is out of stock in japan. You can see it on amazon japan and also genki is reporting it : https://x.com/Genki_JPN/status/1859608028963799253
Square enix wasnt ready at all.

This is the closest thing the Switch is going to get to a brand new DQ release.  The most popular system in Japan (and worldwide) has always gotten the latest new DQ game.  However, there is such a big gap between the release between DQ11 and DQ12 that this series is ironically missing the best selling system of all time.  Japan is hungry for a new DQ on the Switch and this remake is the closest thing that they're going to get.  Considering how the Switch version is out of stock, that likely means the digital sales ratio is high.

The next Nintendo system will likely get DQ12

Also dragon quest monsters the dark prince is on switch as a new release, yes I know it's not a "mainline" game, but it does suggest that square enix has faith in Nintendo, enough to get the 12th game on their next system

Low numbers for Mario & Luigi Brothership, am I right?

M&L is having a rough time atm. IGN gave Brothership 5/10, Acclaim’s potentially getting acquired, and sales aren’t looking pretty…

We already went over this last week ...

It's likely in line with Dream Team's numbers in Japan if you would count digital most likely and it's historically the lowest selling of the Mario RPGs. Disappointing ? Sure. But nothing uncommon.

We don't have much data on the games sales overseas, so there's isn't much to discuss about its actual performance atm.

If Square had read the room and provided enough stock, DQ would probably be over 1m physical.
Dunno what they were thinking under shipping a remake of such a massively popular game; either they were intentionally trying to push people towards digital, or they're exercising the same room temp IQ as when they make FF16 exclusive.

i have no idea how i forgot so quick lol. Yes, you are correct, Mar1217, that sales arent too bad relative to M&L standards. Though, to maybe defend my original comment a little bit, these figures are pretty weak for a 1st/2nd party Nintendo title in Japan. Other than Endless Ocean and NES Championship, I believe M&L:Brothership is the weakest performing Nintendo release this year, if I'm not mistaken?

SE undershipping their over performing titles physically has been quite the tale this generation dating back to the release of Octopath Traveler in 2018 lol.

I wonder ... They feel probably that it's better to be cautious with it in any case, but there's also the problem that comes with the possibility of people who don't preorder but arrive in mass day one nonetheless which can throttle stocks quite easily for the biggest IPs.

I mean, we got DQ11 on 3DS in 2017 even after the Switch came out, so it's not unreasonable to think DQ12 will release on Switch 1 even after Switch 2 comes out.

I bet the Switch will get Dragon Quest 12. Whether it's a downgraded version or a different version like how they made a 3DS version of 11. Dragon Quest 11 was originally going to be a PS4 exclusive, but they changed their minds and added a 3DS version because of it's much higher userbase. I doubt they leave out Switch unless this game comes out 2026 or later.

Yeah not releasing DQ12 on the highest selling system in Japanese history would be a monumental blunder even by Square Enix standards. (Unless, of course, Switch is dead by the time it releases, and even then they'd be fools to skip the successor)
