Forums - Sales Discussion - Switch Ships 146.04 Million Units as of September 2024

Paper Mario has now outsold the Gamecube version, after just four months.

Also look at Switch Sports go; at this rate it should pass NSMBU, and would make it to the top 10 if not for Mario Bros Wonder likely stealing the spot.

I'm surprised Nintendo hasn't updated their sales numbers for Mario Wonder, all indications have been pointing towards Mario Wonder having one the best evergreen sales for Switch games right now. Mario Wonder consistently been on the top of
eshop bestseller charts, Europe & U.S Sales charts, and Amazon bestseller charts for the past few months. I'm sure that game has sold well enough to be worthy of mentioning it, not sure why Nintendo hasn't yet.

I'm still surprised we never saw a Console Only version of the Switch. If they could sell it at 150$ and include a pro controller, they would make a killing. Then again, perhaps is better for them to allow the successor to hog all the spotlight and let the Switch get as much profit as it can before being replaced. I doubt companies care that much about reaching the "best selling X of all time" when the profits are already this monumental.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

SMBW hasn't broken 1m this fiscal year yet, that's all there is to it. "One of the best evergreen sales" doesn't contradict that. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is obviously the uncontested #1 because it does very well everywhere. Animal Crossing comes in second, accumulating 1.09m this fiscal year so far, so this shows that it's becoming harder to crack 1m through only two quarters this late in the lifecycle. Other evergreens like the Zelda games and Super Mario Odyssey manage ~0.25m per quarter now.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

What I am shocked with is the lack of bundles this year. Was there not a ton last year at this point in time?

Yeah they're really not trying at all in this regard, they should at least bring those regional Mario Wonder and Switch Sports bundles worldwide.

Just bundling MK8 for the 7th year in a row is just lazy. If you're gonna make ambitious forecasts, at least put in some effort to achieve them.

Interesting that a Japanese company uses English language on their last console. Font even, that somehow withered differently then the other writing (PS2) on the console. And Sony please, you could have kept your last PS2 in better condition surely!

    More from the report:

The Switch has surpassed 1.3B units of software sold and it's still going strong.  There is a very good chance at Switch becoming the #1 system for both total hardware and total software sold.

Nintendo revised their 13.5M hardware forecast to 12.5M.  I have to wonder why they forecasted so high to begin with, since they seem to have no plan on how to ship that much hardware.  They might have been high on last year's sales from Zelda + Mario movie, but it's also possible that they had to delay some key piece of software.  I am wondering if Pokemon Legends Z-A got pushed to the next fiscal year.

Also, I though Switch Sports would sell better initially, but damn it has some good legs.  It's outsold Animal Crossing so far this FY.
