Forums - Gaming Discussion - Satya Nadella says more Xbox games will be released on other platforms

How Sony operates is that they make devices, and on the other hand, make content for the devices - and other similar devices. Basically the Playstation division has been some sort of exception for bringing in the money. After restructuring, the game & network division have been making money pretty well, but considering the financial risk in releasing new systems and increasing development costs and times for games, it becomes harder and harder to justify exclusivity to consoles. Considering Hirai said years ago that Playstation focuses on service, I'd see it more likely that Playstation will be a service and you can get this set-top box called Playstation you can use to play these games on Playstation network at your living room. And Sony may even license the systems to other manufacturers, so that they either just get royalties from or manufacture some systems themselves. This is pretty much what Google does - they licence their content shop platform to any system possible.

If you look at how the tech world have been for a decade: Sony copies Google, Apple copies Sony, Google copies Apple and Microsoft tries just to hang in there.

If PlayStation was going in the direction of becoming a service and just selling software, then Palword would have been on both PS4 and PS5, just like it was on the Xbone and XBS consoles. The way they are releasing games on their platform is refuting your theory and proving that selling the newest console is still top priority. Releasing games on PC and 1 on switch doesn't automatically mean you are becoming a service and a third party. I don't know what else to say. They've been so successful selling PlayStation hardware, that it doesn't make sense to even speculate that they will stop at some point. Heck, they're just releasing a PS5 Pro next month, so doesn't it seem silly to you to be speculating the end of PlayStation hardware?

Of course the newest console is their priority, it's supposed to make profit. PS5 is already 4 years old, PS6 is already on it's way and PS4 isn't being sold anymore. PS6 not announced, of course, but it's on a design table and Sony is planning it's strategy with PS6. It's possible they already are making launch games for the system. See the problem - the development times and costs are killing the console cycle. 20 years ago you could release your game at launch, have the updated sequel and maybe have the second sequel that's optimised for the hardware. Today a studio has time to develop a game or two each generation and the first one is made without knowing the actual specs of the system.

We already know Sony's management told us that Playstation is supposed to turn into service and it seems Sony's been making Playstation compatible for this one for quite some time. Sony don't seem to fix something that isn't broken and make a 180 degree turn when they're successful. If Sony decides to change during the PS4 era, they spend tha PS5 era to integrate everything so that PS6 can work as a service they intended.

Where/when did they say PlayStation was turning into a service. what kind of service and how is the PS6 supposed help forward the progression of this service? I'm genuinely very confused I've not heard them say anything about them becoming service based. Also, it's way too early to be talking about the PS6. We need to just focus on the products that actually exist.

This is bad news for Sony gamers. Not good news at all. No competition makes Sony a bold little arrogant prick of a company.

It was around a decade ago if I recall. The Playstation now/Playstation plus is part of the plan, if I'm not mistaken.

Yes, PS now/plus are services but Sony having services on their platform doesn't automatically mean it's their priority. They may have said something about progressing with those services 10 years ago sure, but we have to look at their actions to see what their priorities are. Games on PS plus get exactly the same treatment as games on PC, they come at a later date. With Xbox that's totally different. Day and date on Gamepass and PC. This shows that Sony is a console maker first and service provider second. Xbox is a service provider first and a console maker second. Proof is just in the pudding

At this point i would go as far and say we need to stop excluding Nintendo from the competition only because when they are outselling everything else/ sold the most systems in direct comparision. Its Microsoft who targets a "different audience" with basically free games, gamepass, no exclusives... The competition is not MS vs Sony its Nintendo vs Sony. Both got physical games and real exclusives.

A Tegra X1 with 4GB of RAM was never designed to be competition to the PS5/XBS consoles. Heck, I'm not sure if it was even designed to compete with the PS4/Xbone. It is Nintendo that removed themselves from competing, not the gamers

Saleswise they compete. Hardware does not matter. Or would you say that the PS2 did not compete with Xbox and Gamecube? Its about comparable products. And both Sony and Nintendo have a product that plays games physically and digital. Both have games for all audiences. Vgchartz compares both on the front page. I do not wanna sound offensive here but for me this "different audience", "no competition" sounds like anger because the prefered hardware sold less.

Consoles are dying anyways, if Sony raises prices too high the pc exodus will continue.

I don't understand this, they're still directly competing for my time and my money lol. I mostly don't buy indie/AA/JRPG games on my PS5 anymore, Sony is losing money there. At the same time, I mostly don't buy AAA games on my Switch because the hardware is underpowered or they're not available. Nintendo is losing money.

Being the most powerful console is not that important. The PS4 is the only time where the most powerful console of the generation sold more than its competitors since the SNES.
