Microsoft is putting their games on PS5, does that mean Playstation isn't beating Xbox, because Microsoft apparently don't feel threatened?

The difference is, is that Phil Spencer has explicitly stated that they are not trying to out console Sony or Nintendo anymore. They have voluntarily dropped out of the console war. So, yes MS is not threatened by Sony or Nintendo anymore because they are not trying to sell more consoles than them. They are just trying to sell Gamepass and their games on other platforms now. For Sony and Nintendo, that is not the case. Their business model relies on them selling their console and handhelds.

So, yes MS is putting their games elsewhere because they are not threatened by console makers anymore, as they have shifted strategy

You could say much the same about Sony though; putting Horizon Adventures on Switch is due to their shift in strategy towards trying to maximise the reach of their software and increasing revenue by selling on PC and Switch rather than prioritizing exclusivity and hardware sales.

If they shifted strategy, the game would also be on Xbone, XBS consoles, PS4 as those consoles are all more powerful than Switch and can run the game too. They clearly still see Xbox as enough of a threat to not launch it on Xbox, and with PS4 my guess is that they want to incentivise people to buy the PS5 instead of keeping the PS4. Sony's business strategy clearly still is to sell consoles, and I don't know why people are saying they're moving away from that. Sony and MS are not comparable in business strategy. It's just that Switch is not a strong enough competitor to threaten Sony and the PS5

If they're going to keep doing this, I almost wonder if the whole "biggest generational leap" will happen, and the consoles will be $700 and up.
Might as well sell more games on PlayStation and Nintendo while selling less consoles overall but tailoring them to enthusiasts.
A $700-$800 Xbox 5 will likely be cheaper relative to specs of a PC rig of similar capability.
Halo will probably be one of the final current Xbox IPs to come to other consoles. Halo is the flagship Xbox IP, or at least the newly named Halo Studios is trying to make it that way again.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 48 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

XBSS was reduced to as low at 150$ last holiday season, and it still sold worse than the Xbox One did. 700$ is more than 4x that. If a console at 150$ doesn't work, nothing will.

Sony putting their first party exclusives on PC is in itself a huge shift. Selling Horizon Adventures on Switch further cements this move away from exclusivity.

The Switch is the highest selling system on the market and PS5 is unlikely to ever catch up.

The stars are aligning for Nintendo. Great, they stayed strong over 6 very competitive generations after the NES and eventually came out on top, they absolutely deserve it.

Now that the business has reorganized and expanded with newer blood, the timing is right for them to enjoy a brief period of peace and prosperity.

Geez. A shift in strategy doesn't automatically mean a de-prioritising of the console. Yes, Sony has been putting games on PC but that doesn't change that their main priority is still selling their console. Their target is to "out console" the competitors. MS has explicitly stated that they are no longer trying to "out console" anyone. Xbone, XBS consoles, and PS4' all have the ability to interfere with a sale of a PS5 because they are potential rival consoles. A switch does not have the capability to prevent the sale of a PS5 because it is so vastly inferior technically and cannot play the latest games like COD and GTA6. Even the Xbone and PS4 even have the latest COD available

And yet the Switch will most likely sell more than the PS5 lifetime; clearly there is more to gaming than just the latest COD/GTA.

Sony doesn't give a stuff if switch sells more than PS5, as it's just a mini tablet powered by a Tegra X1. They also won't give a stuff if Lego Horizons sells more copies on Switch either. There's more to console success than hardware sales alone. Just look at the Wii, and the DS. Sold a lot of Hardware units but generated much lower profits than the switch has.

This isn't fully true. The Switch does overall compete with the PS5 for sales much less than Xbox and PC but it still will have had an impact the past few years since people have a limited amount of time and money. If only one console can be afforded or if someone only has enough time to use one buying a Switch can totally mean a lost PS5 sale, especially in Japan due to how dominant the Switch is there. And the Switch 2 will have an even greater impact since it's gonna get COD and in general lots more big modern games than the Switch got.
