Forums - Sony Discussion - Digital Foundry - PS5pro's PSSR vs PC DLSS/FSR 3.1

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQKbuUXg9_4

" PSSR is Sony's iteration and impressions thus far have been impressive - but what happens when we stack it up directly in like-for-like scenarios with AMD's existing FSR 3.1 technology along with Nvidia's state-of-the-art DLSS." - DF

In this video, its alot easier to see the benefits of a PS5pro.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------> update 2:

Mainly because so many people wrote they cant spot the differnce :)

Watch this from around 4m30s into the video and onwards.
To see difference between PS5pro and PS5 base model.

----------------------------------------------------------> Update 3:

Fullscreen 4K captures of the HEVC video file uploaded to Digital Foundry's own site without shitty Youtube compression:

PSSR once again comes out very very close to DLSS.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------> Update 4   (FF7R)

Last of US:

^ Can you guys spot a differnce now?

So what do you guys think?
This for me hits pretty close to DLSS, at times tradeing blows in some area's too.
This is far faaaaar better than AMD's FSR... and better than Intel's XeSS imo.

Also remember this is from a dev kit, with first version of PSSR.

Apparently Insomniac told DF that the PSSR already had updates and improved it significantly, like improving ghosting and reducing runtime and they expects more improvements over time.

So just like there are DLSS versions,.... a few months down the line from the PS5pro launch, you might see a update, and a PSSR 1.1 or something, that then improves things abit.

I'm just so impressed.
I wish AMD had this for their PC side of things.

I can't tell any difference. And if you need to zoom in 5x to show any difference then it's not worth the money. I didn't need to zoom in 5x to see Dreamcast was vastly more powerful than PS1.

This is the same game, with near like for like settings (as close as possible) with a PS5pro vs a PC with a Nvidia card (useing FSR and DLSS).

If they reach "they're the same picture" thats a high praise from you :)
Its not easy to match DLSS with upscaleing quality.

This isnt a PS5pro vs PS5.
This is.... whats the differnce between a PS5pro vs a High end PC.

And it looks the same. So why spend the cash when my 2 year old laptop can do better? Even Sony's own hype video had the same issue. PS5/PS5 pro didn't look any different until they zoomed in which begs the question. Consumers are not DF. So it's not worth the money is it?

You have a laptop with a Nvidia 4080 (akin to a desktop 4070 in performance) ? Congrats on owning a 1700$+ laptop :)

The differnce between PSSR vs FSR can be quite big yes.
FSR has shimmering which can be quite visibly distracting.
Its gone with PSSR (one of the things alex comments on in the video) and much more stable image akin to DLSS.

Yes, I expect alot of people, even if they are not DF, will appreciate better looking games.

Did you watch the video?
The pictures above are not to showcase the improvements against the PS5 base model.
Its DF's way of testing how good PSSR is.  They put it up against DLSS (nvidia's upscaler) and compaire it there.

In the video can you see PSSR vs FSR (PS5 base model).
PSSR gives a much better image.... which is why the next step (which DF logically took) was to compair to DLSS.

Graphics comparisons are getting really silly. You need to own a magnifying glass now to find the differences.

By next gen we will need the James Webb Telescope to see the difference and PS6 will cost 1200 bucks.

I'm so glad I'm comfortable with 30fps modes in almost all single player games. Particularly though with good quality motion blur (stares awkwardly at FFVII Rebirth)

🤣 Exactly.
