Forums - Sales Discussion - Ubisoft stock tumbles, Star Wars Outlaws reportedly selling poorly

Ubisoft's Star Wars Outlaws is reportedly having a lacklustre launch, with physical numbers in the UK less than half of last year's Assassin's Creed Mirage:

Ubisoft itself isn't doing too hot either; share price has dropped by half since July, reaching it's lowest point since 2014 and having lost 80% of its value since 2018:

Outside of the Mario + Rabbids games and HOPEFULLY Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era next year, I really don’t give a crap about Ubisoft anymore. The second I see the Ubisoft logo, I immediately lose a lot of interest.

To me, Ubisoft has become like the fast food of the games industry for the past decade and also represents a lot about what’s wrong with modern gaming, and it hopefully seems like a lot of people have had enough of their crap.

From the tiresome “Ubisoft open world formula” to having mtx in every game including single player, to always online for every game including single player, to “players need to get comfortable in not owning their games” exec, to outlandish pricing for their AAA games, to an overly expensive subscription service, to bastardizing the Tom Clancy name, all while being led by a massive POS in Yves.

And a lot of Ubisoft’s modern BS steeped into Star Wars Outlaws and as I previously mentioned, players hopefully have just grown tired of their antics. As much as I want to be excited for the likes of the Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remakes, it’s hard to be anything but.

GREAT!

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

I haven't bought a Ubi games, outside mario vs rabbids, since the ps3. Their games have been cookie cutter for over a decade. Let me when they do something original.

Edit

Also Ubi can go **** themselves with forcing Ubiconnect when using Steam.

Well deserved, they're possibly the most formulaic developer out there today, and the formula is growing very old. Outlaws is a weird game, I don't understand who they made it for at all. I had some initial interest when the concept was first presented, but quickly lost it when gameplay emerged. It's just uninteresting. Ubisoft have been uninteresting for a long time. The last time they were truly good was around 2010-2015, the likes of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, and Far Cry 3, were all brilliant titles with some thought put into them, with interesting mechanics to boot. Human Revolution was downright brilliant, in my opinion.

AC Shadows will sell poorly as well.

I mentioned it shortly on the front page article, but I'm sure a big reason for the lukewarm reception of Outlaws, beside it also not looking very interesting as a game to begin with, is the massive brand damage done to the Star Wars franchise as a whole in these past years. So there's not much 'casuals' interested in this either.

Disney had gold in their hands, with them gaining one of, if not the biggest entertainment franchise out there. But then they really dropped the ball. People already didn't like the sequel trilogy, but lately the tv-shows have actually brought a negative vibe to the franchise. The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan and Ahsoka shows were largely found so-so, people didn't like The Mandalorian S3 nearly as much as the first two seasons and now The Acolyte is outright hated pretty much universally (and yes it indeed was pretty terrible). Then there's all the stuff surrounding it, like certain figures in management, producers and writers making negative comments about the fanbase. This has added up, has left a bad taste in people's mouths and they have become weary of new content. Whether it be movies, tv-series or video games. Me too. Ubisoft's timing is unfortunate, Star Wars is now damaged goods. It's doesn't stand for great times and fun entertainment anymore. And it pains me to say that as it was once one of my favourite things.

Maybe Andor S2 can redeem it a bit. The first season of that was great.

EDIT: A bit off-topic but still speaking of Ubisoft though I did actually buy a video game lately. The first since Tears of the Kingdom, and it's a Ubisoft game. The last Prince of Persia game was on sale, so I got it, I thought it looked good. We'll see if I ever actually get around to playing it though.

It is kind of a shame. Back in the day Vegas, Prince of Persia, Beyond Good and Evil, Splinter Cell... Ubi used to be my jam.

Far Cry 3 was great but it's time to let go Ubi. Enough already.

Biggest problem with Ubisoft is Yves, that man has been desperately clinging to power because it's a family business all while Ubisoft collapses around him. He has been a shitty leader and let Ubisoft stagnate and chase shitty trends. His awful handling of Ubisoft's toxic culture has led to a lot of talent leaving, alongside restricting creative freedom.

I'm actually looking forward to AC Shadows but I'm not playing Avatar or Star Wars Outlaws unless they hit Game Pass, Lol. I still play all Assassin Creed's and Far Cry's because I actually still find them enjoyable but they've had a noticeable decline too, Valhalla especially had a tedious open-world. At this point I see Ubisoft titles more like filler games to kill some time, I still can find fun in them but they aren't special, they're like a McDonalds meal, Lol.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was awesome though and that was the first time in a number of years where I've actually felt something more impactful from an Ubisoft title. Where I was like, I'll remember this game, it's pretty damn awesome but those are rare from Ubisoft nowadays, Lol. Watch them gut the team who made it and move them onto some generic shit.
