Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Who else is not ready to move on to next-gen Nintendo?

Maybe it's because I come from the golden age of gaming (plug-and-play era), but after five years, I am more than ready for a new gen.

Nope. I’m ready to see Mario jumping on Goombas in 1440p 60FPS. And Luigi riding around Rainbow Road with the most eye-catching visuals ever conceived by technology.

Seems like most of the people who can't wait for next gen to start are very focused on graphics and resolutions haha. Graphics don't make games boys. All systems have amazing graphics these days. Sure it'll be exciting to see Nintendo franchises in next gen graphics, but personally I think that's a silly reason to not like the Switch anymore.

No graphics don't make games. But the same game running at a higher resolution and frame rate is better than the same game running at a lower resolution and frame rate.

Would you rather play Metroid Prime 4 on a Switch or a Switch 2? The answer should be obvious.

I agree. The Switch is comfortable and is the most "console" of the three these days. It's novelty never quite wore off.

I wonder if Nintendo will step away from the Switch concept; they are a strange company that rarely does the same thing twice. The concern I'd have if they did would make me clutch my Switch even tighter.

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

The graphics and load times of Switch are so rough compared to my PS5 and shoot even the graphics are really rough compared to PS4. Xenoblade and Zelda are begging for better hardware.
If I can still get the quality gameplay at a better resolution and frame rate, that's the best of both worlds. I've been ready for Switch 2 to launch any time since March 2023. I don't need to get it in the launch month to want it ASAP.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 48 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

If the Switch 2 is 100% backwards compatible like all the leaks have been pointing to, why wouldn't you be ready then? You'll still be able to play all the games you're playing now (hopefully some are even able to take advantage of the better hardware such as ToTK) as well as whatever killer app launch games Nintendo is cooking right now on an entirely new system.

I'm really hoping Switch 2 has a lot more personality in terms of main menu the way the Wii and Wii U had. The Switch has always had a boring AF main menu.

I would have no problem if took a couple of years more for the Switch 2 to launch as there is an abundance of games I want to finish and even more I want to buy but in terms of time in the spotlight and the potential for games to run better (we've not hit as much of a diminishing returns wall on the portable side), I'd buy it if it came out tomorrow.

Also, please give me sticks that don't drift. I've gone through 4 joycons with varying degrees of drift, ended up with a Hori Split pad, which I don't think is drift immune but so far so good.

Also, it has been made abundantly clear Nintendo is not rushing the launch already, so I think the software line-up will be fine at launch.

But hey, I know many gamers are very focused on graphics and decide whether they like a game or not simply based on framerate or resolution lol and that's the most important thing for them. (don't cry at me for calling you out haha)

While of course the world is ready for the next gen Nintendo as the market has been close to saturated since about a year ago, and it doesn't make any sense to do another round of Nintendo franchises on Switch, I'm more just talking about how many great games there are on Switch, as an individual it is hard to actually be done with the system cuz there's too many amazing games on it.

Framerate impacts gameplay.  More frames = more accurate controls.  I played RE4 remake at 30 fps, averaged 65% accuracy.  I played RE4 remake at 120 fps, averaged 91% accuracy.  Don't discount fps having a direct impact on gameplay.  This is especially true for first person shooters, like Prime 4.

I’ve got a lot of Switch games and a lot to catch up on playing after some aspects of my health improved.

I’m sure the next system will be great and have a strong lineup, but I will probably need a
couple of years to make up my mind about what I want.

Why the condescending tone though? Is so bad to think graphics and performance are as important as gameplay design? I personally think some Switch games would be significantly better if they could run on better hardware. Zelda TOTK has some painfully annoying framerate drops here and there, they fixed it in later patches but still...

And for action games yeah 60 FPS definitely improves a lot the experience. It's just so much more smooth... plus some games on Switch just do not look good for me.

Anyway if there was no point in wanting better consoles, then it's pointless to release new systems. We could keep all current consoles running forever without any power upgrades, they would even become cheaper with time.
