The PS5 is nowhere near comparable to how bad the PS3 was.

Imagine multiplatform games running significantly worse despite the hardware advantage, PlayStation Network being 10x worse, popular third party games being exclusive to the competitors platform, on top of bombs like Lair and Haze? People are hating on Concord, but imagine watching Socom die in real time, because of a major network hack the week it launched.

The ps3 had great software at release and steadily flowing through the early years. The ps3 was FAR better than the ps5 in this regard. It was also a great media center for the time if you bought a HDD for it but PS5 is only slightly better than a smart TV.

Hey, I'm Sonys target. I got the PS4 PRO, PSVR and early in on software right up until the PS5 came out but they still can't get me to hop over to next generation. When I feel they are fucking me then it means they're doing things wrong.

People complained that PSVR2 is more expensive than a PS5 console. Sony fixed that problem by raising PS5 prices . ;)

Not sure why so many are acting like this PS5 Pro is like the beginning of a new console generation and that it's already over for Sony.

It's because SNY dropped PS4 to $299 after 3 years, while introducing PS4 Pro at $399 (optical drive included).

Now we have PS5 at $499 after 4 years, and PS5 Pro being introduced at $699 ($799 with the optical drive add on).

Is PS5 Pro that much more of an upgrade over PS5 vs what PS4 Pro was over PS4?

The biggest reason is inflation, but if SNY's approach and strategy was similar to PS4, there's little reason why PS5 couldn't be dropped to $399 and have Pro at $599. The fact SNY decided not to go with 1TB storage and let the user upgrade to 2TB, knocking $50-$100 off the price, or using that to offset the cost of including the optical drive, shows SNY has changed their strategy and doesn't care much about growing unit sales. As long as they keep making large enough profits they don't care what PS product you're gaming on.

They're heading towards becoming arrogant PS3 SNY again.

That and these generic failures. They won't use the IP we want. They won't listen and they now think themselves as apple but what they can't see is they're making themselves look cheaper rather than premium. Even the PS5 design looks cheap.

I think a lot of their decisions in the PS5 era have been bad. What comes to mind:

$10 upgrades for PS4 version games to PS5 (Xbox was free, 1 copy everywhere)
Huge amounts of money invested in live service titles (Helldiver 2 paid off, others remain to be seen)
Price increases for the console and accessories
Huge PS Plus price increase

Can we add in that apparently Naughty Dog no longer makes new games?  I mean seriously, WTF have they been working on?

Nope.

As long as they still make TVs (which every single TV I ever owned is a Sony one) and they continue to make Playstation hardware/software I'll continue being a consumer for them.

The PS5 Pro pricing just makes me not want to invest in it because of the value for the price isnt worth it for me since I already have a PS5. If I didnt have a PS5, it would have been a day 1 purchase.

I'm expecting the PS6 to be similar in price as things go up in price and likely will be getting that day 1.

So in the mean time, I'm just going to use the money and resources for the next Nintendo system in 2025 and a gaming desktop probably in late 2025 or 2026.

The Cory Barlog game as well. It's past time for that.

If you're lucky enough to be on high end PC good for you man. That's where I'd be now if I could afford it.

I've been there. I built myself a nice little rig in 2021 with an AMD 5600X, 64 GB RAM and a RTX 3070. But even there I couldn't find any games that would need that much power. I gave the PC to my son who is enjoying Cities Skylines II, Train Sim World and stuff like that. But I noticed that I am perfectly fine with less power. So I'm mainly playing on the Switch and for PC gaming the Steam Deck was good enough. I "upgraded" to the Lenovo Legion Go a few months ago, because it runs Windows and I can use it as my main PC. I need Windows for work, sadly.

It's quite amazing what these little machines can bring to the screen. And honestly power is no more somethin that would limit developers in any kind of way, if you ask me.

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

I'm happy with my ps5 and switch. Never a shortage of games to play.

It's been four years since their previous game. And games need more time for development today. Tekken 8 released 7 years after Tekken 7. Dead Island 2 was in development for 10 years (but it went through a few dev teams). FF16 released 7 years after FF15. COD:BO6 was 4 years in development (and there were times when Treyarch did launch COD every 2 years). So, 4-5 years is the smallest time to create AAA project today. And don't forget that ND team creates new IP according to rumours. New IP always takes more time.
