Forums - Sony Discussion - PS5 Pro revealed. November 7th 2024. $699

The PS5 Pro will launch on November 7th 2024 for $699. It is designed to give the graphics of "fidelity modes" at 60fps so you do not need to choose between graphics and frame rate. It comes with a 2TB SSD.

Old titles with confirmed PS5 Pro Updates:

Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Souls, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, The Crew Motorfest, The First Descendant, The Last of Us Part II Remastered

Upgraded GPU

With PS5 Pro, we are upgrading to a GPU that has 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory. Overall, this enables up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay, making the experience much smoother.

Advanced Ray Tracing

We’ve added even more powerful ray tracing that provides more dynamic reflection and refraction of light. This allows the rays to be cast at double, and at times triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console.

AI-Drive Upscaling

We’re also introducing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail.

PS5 Pro Game Boost

PS5 Pro Game Boost, which can apply to more than 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games playable on PS5 Pro. This feature may stabilize or improve the performance of supported PS4 and PS5 games. Enhanced Image Quality for PS4 games is also available to improve the resolution on select PS4 games.

The console has 2x-3x the Ray Tracing performance of the original PS5 Gran Tursimo 7 for example now has raytraced reflections on cars in races.

A new piece of gaming tech hardware is always an exciting thing to see! I know I'm not upgrading but still looking forward to seeing what the console is supposedly capable of.

Called it.

I will watch, but I will probably still skip the whole generation. I will see, let us see what the improvements are like in games and not just on paper.

(I will likely buy a switch 2 and steam deck 2 though)

Any thoughts on this rumoured ps dedicated handheld, or do you all think knit will just be the ps5 pro?

There might be a PlayStation handheld device in development, rumoured a lot, but I don't think it's close to completion and definitely won't be shown tomorrow.

Hmmm... I´m guessing they are going for something to let you get the best of both worlds (quality/resolution vs framerate) without compromise,
With a few extra tweaks thrown in from newer GPU architecture. But it basically wouldn´t require devs to do much extra, no specific asset optimizations etc;
at most some basic testing of the newer GPU features which are optional anyways. Besides that, maybe in newer ¨true¨ current-gen games (not x-gen),
it will really shine the most. I think PSVR is venue where mediocre power gains can be felt, but doesn´t seem like that is priority for Sony.

I'm guessing it'll be the same bump in power the PS4 Pro gave over the original, which is fine. It means if you want to play Final Fantasy XVI with performance mode (the way an action-oriented game is meant to be played) it won't have to look like a Rorschach test when you start fighting.

9 min. ?

That seems almost to short for a hardware presentation nonetheless. I thought they would try to go in length about their software updates for such a system but oh well if that's to be done later, it's fine.

Was hoping they'd reveal it during a PlayStation Showcase but this should still be a neat watch.
