Forums - Sales Discussion - Famitsu Sales: Week 35, 2024 (Aug 26 - Sep 01)

Seems the bunch of new releases boosted the Switch somewhat this week. I wonder if the PS5 will be able to stay above 20k next week and it's notable that the PS5 versions of these games are selling about three times as much as the PS4 versions. The amount of people still buying games on the latter is getting pretty small now.

I guess that the majority of gamers who want or have already bought PS5 are the same people who earlier owned PS4. Considering that PS5 plays all PS4's games, PS4 isn't essential nowadays. If person has both PS4 and PS5, this person will almost spend time with newer console. Also more than half of people could move to nextgen at the moment looking at lifetime PS4 and PS5 sales in that region.

With the PS5's price increase, does the Switch have a better chance to surpass its 2018 numbers? 🤔

Lots of new releases this week. Switch is selling strong even though 2019 numbers are going to keep pulling ahead of 2024 going forward.

Quite the week for the Switch and even the PS5 with a bunch of releases more competition in the top 19 software for once.

Emio : The Smiling Man didn't pull as much physically as I thought it would in Japan. Considering the remakes were digital only except for a collector, I suppose digital will the preferred way to buy this game for most.

Was there some kind of deal or holiday or something?
These relative small-to-medium releases don't seem like the sort of thing that would cause a substantial hardware bump.

At any rate, good week for both Switch and PS5.

Curious how next week will turn out for PlayStation. On one hand, the PlayStation 5 got a price increase in Japan, but on the other hand, Astro Bot has been really getting positive reception so perhaps that will boost it up along with healthy sales for the game.

Am I wrong in saying that Emio kinda bombed? Or am I missing smth?

It's opening sales are a little over twice as big as the remakes from a few years ago. As far as straight visual novels go, it did rather well actually.

It's unlikely because the holiday period will be so much worse than 2018, when a console is this old it doesn't get the big November and December spike in sales (checkout 2023). i think a flat 3 million is probable for 2024.
