Forums - Sales Discussion - Famitsu Sales: Week 34, 2024 (Aug 19 - Aug 25)

Switch got 15k within the 2019 YTD. Don't think it's going to reach it this year though. 2019 sales really take off after this week.

Sony shit by increasing the price of the ps5 in japan, consoles should drop in price and not rise, we live in dark times inflation is so high. This makes me think about the price of the switch 2, with the cost to produce hardware so high I don't think the switch 2 will cost less than 500 dollars, unless nintendo wants to lose money on hardware to win in the game but they don't usually do that.

Some of the Switch SKUs might have sold at a loss in Japan at some point. Imagine it takes 140 and 180 USD to sell the Lite and the standard model at a profit, for instance. These would be some narrow margins at current exchange rates.

The question is how much will the new hardware increase the BoM and what sort of profit or loss Nintendo wants to take there. Hard to think of it selling for less than 55000 JPY as things stand right now. That's 80% more expensive than the launch Switch (and perhaps not even enough to break even).

First full week of the price increase predictably gives Xbox its lowest week of the year. The chances of it beating last year's total look to be completely gone now. Still has a good shot of being down the least of the three %wise though (for whatever it's worth at such low figures; still, it's been quite interesting to follow in Japan this year, given it's significantly down virtually everywhere else).

How big were the Xbox's price hikes on the X and S compared to the ones on the PS5?

The prices increases are for I believe the older models were announced 3-4 weeks ago.

New price for Xbox Series X = 66,978

New price for Series S 1TB = 49,978

New price for Series S 512 GB = 44,578

New price for PS5 std. = 79,980

New price for PS5 Digital = 72,980

...to avoid getting banned for inactivity, I may have to resort to comments that are of a lower overall quality and or beneath my moral standards.

How is it too hard to believe that they wouldn't keep it close to the previous MSRP for the next generation when they haven't budge an increase during the whole Switch life in their own country ?

Japan is too important of a territory for Nintendo to lose by gouging it's home userbase like Sony and Microsoft did.

A potential 400USD Switch 2 would likely be a 45K-50K Yen at worst I believe.

The Series X started the year at 54,978 yen and in February went up to 59,978. The Series S 512GB went from 32,278 yen to 37,978 in Feb.

Meanwhile, the PS5 std. was 66,980 and digital was 59,980 before the recent hikes.  Previous price increase was in 2022.

So, since the beginning of the year, XBox Series consoles have increased 12,000 yen while PS5 consoles will increase 13,000 yen.

Switch had a relatively weak week so didn't get as close to 2019 as I thought it was gonna but it still got very close which is really impressive. Good week for the PS5 due to Wukong but the price increase is probably gonna make sales get at least a bit rough soon though it got to 6m before that so it's not the worst thing.

Why is it that Xbox will go from a few thousands units sold to nearly 0 on random weeks? Lol.

(Also, we are one week away from Zelda NSWL. Will be interesting to see how this’ll impact hardware figures. My expectation is ~85k NSW next week.)

I thought the Zelda Switch Lite was releasing the same day as Echoes.

I have absolutely no idea why I trust the words of some ppl in these forums. Somebody said "EoW Switch Lite releases in two weeks" last week. No idea what the forum was, but having looked into myself, you are correct lol.

The Series X with this new price would be the same price the PS5 (disc) sells for currently. Microsoft erased their advantage of having the cheaper system. Now Sony increase the prices again which puts both PS5 models more expensive than the Series X, thus giving Microsoft the price advantage again. I just find that funny.

The main question is where that person got it from since this train of misinformation will have started somewhere lol.
