Forums - Nintendo - The meltdown of Wii haters continues

I just thought. Are these the people that Malstrom is talking about. The ones who cry , because nintendo is disrupting the market. The same people who said the nes would fail when it revived console gaming , and took gaming back from the pc market. If so then I am a happy person. This just confirms more things that Malstrom has been saying will come true.

If anything the Wii is gaming more so then the other so called nextgen consoles.

the time with just using your thumb and forefinger is the past.

the time with thumb, forefinger, arms, legs and balance is the future.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

I think someone should sit down and think about GTA for a while. I don't know if I'm in the minority here (or anywhere else), but most of the people that I know that played the PS2's GTA games are people that I would not consider "hardcore" gamers.

Someone may need to convince me otherwise, but I've never seen GTA as the jewel of hardcore gaming, IMHO.

The irony is that with all the criticism of the wii, the machine still vastly outsells all other consoles.

While most criticise that companies have been unable to churn out good games for the wii, it is other systems which have been unable to innovate, incapable of benefiting from great power of he 360 and ps3 consoles to make great games.
If you don't like sport games or shooters, and rather use your brains a little and want to have fun, well there are few games on other consoles to choose from. Some argue that the wii is a virus. The only reason to justify this is because the wii is forcing companies to think up new innovative ideas, or the games will flop, rather than churning out an upgrade of the same game for ten years.

There are plenty of games that don't fall under shooter/sports, its just that those two get the most pub right now.  As for the second bolded part, I would like to introduce you to Mario and Zelda.  I relalize that Zelda is a GC title that got Wii-ified but there was nothing new there and it didn't flop.  And Mario is still the same as it was 20 years ago.  Run through the end of a lot of levels and save the Princess who can't stay unkidnapped for more than 15 minutes.  And yes, I have these games.  I found them fun.  But they are what they are, the same game I have played before, just with some waggle to it.

This guy needs to read the malstrom blog.

How is the Wii forcing people to innovate? It's compatible with the GC as well as Classic Controller, and I'm pretty sure games like Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn didn't flop. Also you could be a little innovative and upgrade the same game from ten years ago, look at Resident Evil 4.

I don't know about this one...I don't see it as wii hate but as close to facts as you can get. Other than the "3rd parties don't sell" comment.

I 100% agree with this paragraph...

"Movement based controls are fun, but we’ve yet to see them used in a truly innovative way. But then, why should developers bother to work on such complexities when the average Wii user just wants to wave their arms about for twenty minutes? Anyone who still believes these magical games for gamers are going to materialize need to take the rose tinted glasses off and face up to the facts - Nintendo have been sailing their ship in a different direction for some time, and they’re showing no intention of turning it around any time in the near future…"

Here's the thing.  He states right off the bat in that paragraph that we haven't seen them used in "a truly innovative way."  The problem arguing that is it's so relative.  What is innovative to one person isn't so to another.  I could sit here and argue all day about how it helped create the definitive RE4 control scheme, how FPS and FPA like MOH:H2 and MP3 benefited greatly from the new controls, but it would be useless as anybody could just come by and brush it off by saying "it's not truly innovative".

Another line: "Anyone who still believes these magical games for gamers are going to materialize..."

At this point no I don't believe games for gamers are going to materialize on the Wii.  THEY ALREADY HAVE!  It was one thing complaining a year ago about Wii not having enough quality games but now there are plenty of fun games that appeal to hardcore gamers.  Just a few days back we had trouble suggesting games for rocketpig's niece because several of the stereotypical "kiddie" games were more difficult than what people who haven't played them would lead you to believe.  You also have games like Fire Emblem and Trauma Center being marked down in reviews for being too difficult.

At this point if you're a gamer complaining that there aren't any games for you on the Wii you're not a true gamer.

Fixed.

I think we need a new Wii Bingo Board after this week ... We can probably replace "The Wii is a fad" with "You're not a gamer unless you hate the Wii"

I don't look at all the hate as such a bad thing. The iPod got a ton of hate press from the techies. If anything, it helped sales.

I agree. It's like when we hate on the Nintendo haters and their blogs get a lot of hits. In turn, when they hate on the Wii, it stirs up interest and keeps its name on the tip of every tounge.

To consider GTA 4 the biggest hardcore game show how retarded he is. It really doesn`t matter in the end, clueless people never get it.

This really depends on what you define as "hardcore". We've discussed this before (you know I wouldn't call myself a "hardcore" gamer) and in my opinion GTA 4 is the biggest "hardcore" game, if we go by the currently popular definition of a "hardcore" game.

GTA 4 is violent, it's mature (well, M-rated), its looks are realistic, it's a game from a western developer, you can put a lot of time into it and it causes controversy in the mainstream media (thanks Malstrom). GTA 4 is practically everything "hardcore" gaming stands for.

And now it's going up against the complete opposite, Wii Fit. It seems like some "hardcore" gamers see late April/early May as the defining point in this generation. The final chance for a turnaround in this generation. Will "hardcore" gaming succeed or will the Wii continue to dominate the market and never look back?

Imagine a scenario where the Wii outsells the 360 and PS3 combined (or at least beats each one individually by a significant margin) in April NPD as well as in May NPD even though both HD consoles should see boosts in hardware sales due to "hardcore" gamings flagship title. That would cause some serious meltdowns among "hardcore" gamers.

GTA IV is hardcore if your a fratboy. Fire Emblem and Baroque are hardcore if your an actual gamer.
