Switch hits the 33 million mark! Japan's best-selling console soldiers on with no end in sight

SMBW should not be losing to anything other than new releases. The game is not that good.

congratulations to the switch but I wonder if switch 2 can pass this number, I don't think so, what's your opinion?

And there it is. The 33m mark has been reached breaking the record which is wild by itself but the Switch still has at least a couple million sales left to go so it's gonna blow past the record. With the declining population it'll likely hold on to the record forever unless the Switch 2 is an even bigger success worldwide and/or people importing Japanese Switch's happens even more with the successor.

I dont think we should expect anything to pass Switch but then again we said this about PS2 worldwide and DS in Japan but now Switch is looking to pull off the impossible. So maybe we will see a future platform beat Switch.

Truth is Mario Kart is actually *the* lead Mario franchise now, not the platformer games. 2D and 3D Mario are also now about evenly popular. 

Some people are gonna be in denial about this but the numbers are staring them right in the face. 

Also theres a flood of Mario games on the Switch, and Wonder isnt the first 2D Mario on Switch ether.

Switch is now #1 in Japan and is still selling strong at 48k+ this week. Not only did it sell more than 2019 for this week, but its YTD is now closer to 2019 than 2018. Basically 2024's YTD is close to 2019 and it is gaining ground on 2019. I can't wait to see this next Direct to see what Nintendo has planned for the 2nd half of the year.
