Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Rumor/Leak for specific RAM and storage capacity of the Switch sucessor (Centro Leak)

How would it compare to a steamdeck? My nephew loves his steamdeck the extra power made him forgot his switch (and some of the games he can't play on switch also made him prefer to play on steamdeck). Told him a few months switch 2 could be more powerfull and he should keep an eye on it.

I do think people are misunderstanding vram.  The size is how much can be stored and bandwidth is how fast data can be loaded and unloaded from the vram.  The ps4 was 176 gb/s and the ps5 is 448 gb/s.  That was a massive jump.  Don't get me wrong the switch to S2 is an absurd jump.  But I think people are focused way, way, way too much on size of the ram and are ignoring bandwidth.

One of the reasons the Ally and Deck are limited in resolution and fps is because both of those require high memory bandwidths.

Switch's current bandwidth is 25.6GB/s. Whereas this rumor is suggesting 120GB/s based on the spec.

That's a larger leap than 176GB/s to 448GB/s. Add that to it being a jump from 4GB to 12 GB (where PS4 was 8GB to 16GB) and I think you see the idea. Switch to Switch 2, based on this rumor, would be a larger leap than PS4 to PS5 in percentage increase. As, bandwidth wise, PS5 is a 254% increase over PS4 whereas Switch 2 would be (according to this rumor) a 468% increase. In capacity, RAM doubled from PS4 to PS5 and tripled from Switch to Switch 2 (according to the rumor)

Which is fantastic. Switch 2 may be closer to the PS5 than the Switch was to the PS4. Which is just going to make porting things easier.

No doubt the S2 is a larger jump.  My point was people are focused on vram and not looking at performance overall.  Memory bandwidth is every bit as important as amount of ram.

Deck has 16 gb of ram, more than the S2, but the S2 will be more optimized, thus needs less.

Memory bandwidth of the Deck is 88 gb/s and the S2 at most will be 122 gb/s, it could be less.  So overall very similar.

But S2 should have a newer/better architecture.  Overall the Switch will be around the Deck and rog ally.  Both are good benchmarks on what to expect for the S2.

Edit

The big advantage the S2 could have is the dock.  It could, in theory, but used increase power a good amount via active cooling.

PS4 to PS5 was roughly a 2.5 times increase in terms of speed by your numbers,  and 2 times in terms of total capacity.

So if Switch 2 is 12GB it's already a bigger leap in capacity, and if it's over 62.5GB/s then it's a bigger jump in speed too.

It is a bigger jump, I'm not arguing that.  I was just pointing out rating the jump by amount only doesn't paint the full picture.

I was including that in my assessment. Maybe I just wasn't explicit enough in that.

At any rate, 12GB of LPDDR5X at (apparently) 120 GB/s is gonna be a big jump from the Switch's 4GB of LPDDR4 at 25 GB/s, and games like the next Zelda and Xenoblade should benefit greatly.

You can commonly find 521 GB nvme drives for $40-50.
Is that really such an expensive technology any more that they have to go with an alternative?

12 GB of RAM sounds good though. It's not 16, but I was worried they'd go with 8.

Sounds like it migth be somewhere around PS4 Pro - Series S.
Which is also better than expected.

You both knew very well that 12GB was the minimum of ram the switch 2 would get. And you're just nintendo haters trolling. The only thing you're worried is how much of a beating the competitors will take once the Switch 2 releases.

12 gb is huge :) thats nice, was one of my worries, that they might to too low.

This guy reminds me of the good old days when the site first started. So much vitriol towards people who have different preferences or opinions.

-Smash - the question is whether it will feel like an expansion of Smash Ultimate or scaled back game with less fighters, namely guests. I never want fewer playable characters, but Sakurai has indicated in the past that we should expect less next time around.

-Tears of the Kingdom fully optimized for the Switch 2 with DLC built in. Said DLC will be a paid option on Switch 1. Doesn't matter if you own it on Switch, you're buying it again at full price if you want it on Switch 2 (a big reason why I don't yet have it myself).

-Something akin to Nintendo Land, Nintendogs, Switch Sports or 1, 2 Switch to capture the mass market. If there is a new gimmick concept that is used to sell the system, then a brand new IP that is built around it, or one of the above games that will really emphasize it.

-Street Fighter 6, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Monster Hunter Rise + Sunbreak, Elder Scrolls 6, Tekken, and whatever the latest Assassin's Creed is, all with their respective DLC included. And FIFA

-Mario Tennis or Mario Soccer, with the return of storymode and RPG elements like the ones on GBC and GBA

There where a couple of Wii U Deluxe versions early in the Switch life cycle, but that was also because Switch was not backwards compatible.

I cannot remember Nintendo launching Deluxe versions or ports of older games within any other System's launch window when it was backwards compatible. Assuming the Switch is backwards compatible, I'm therefore assuming we will not get Deluxe versions or ports of Switch games at least not in the first year. I am guessing the following games:

-Mario 3D, featuring Donkey Kong. This would be a nice twist on the 3D Mario formula, combining it with a playable DK. Launchgame.

-Show off 'Gimmick' Game. Essentially a smaller tech demo kind of game at launch. Possibly included with the system depending on how much higher Switch2 price point will be.

-Casual 'Gimmick' Game. Most likely multiplayer focused. Could be new entry in Mario Party series released during holidays.

-New Mario Kart ????. Likely a new take. Probably Summer.

-Splatoon4. Yes sounds early, but Splatoon2 followed the first entry really quick. I think they keep this cadence to keep momentum of the series strong. Launch in Fall.

-Elden Ring port to impress (like Skyrim did with Switch) hard core gamers. Possibly Armored Core6.

-Lot's of Capcom (Streetfighter6, RE Remakes, Monster Hunter Wilds, that dinosaur game)

-Good Ubisoft support in 1/2 half of launch window. Probably Assasin's Creed & some family friendly game.

-Microsoft's Sea of Thieves and Call of Duty

Link's Awakening DX. If you consider the Game Boy Color the same console as the original GB and not an full successor, then it's a deluxe version within the same console's life.

No worries.  Your nephew and Nintendo fans will be pleased.  The S2 will be the deck + 10-20%, meaning a bit better.  The S2 is going to be a huge jump and very perceptible to gamers.
