Oof. That's rough, the OG switch was pushing it for portability. I hope they don't think people use PC portables for anything other than lazily round the house. Perhaps they have data that shows people don't actually use the switch on the go too 🤔

I think their internal data is showing that people prefer larger screens + don't mind larger portables. I mean people take their huge phones and even tablets everywhere. Looks like they went with a significantly larger system. I think their internal data probably also showed people weren't shoving their Switch into their pant pockets (like a DS or 3DS) anyway. It's too big as is, so I think they figured they can go even larger if you're putting it in a bag, case, or larger jacket pocket or something.

Another plus though beyond the chipset, screen, and battery stuff is the Joycons are going to be larger too which should help comfort in using them especially when held horizontally.

Exactly, you just have to see the switch lite sales numbers to confirm this too.

Yeah, the joy cons could do with being bigger, gotta wonder will they pull a PS portable like thing where they are bigger than the tablet but without the back panel. It'd look funky but since it's going to be chunky anyway why not go the full hog and have couch level comfort.

They will probably size them up too because it's a very obvious way of getting people to have to buy all their Joycons over again, they can claim "hey the system is larger, we have no choice but to go with larger Joycons!" instead of reusing the same size and letting people just use their existing Joycons attached to the system.

Extra Joycon sales are probably a huge cash cow.

I wonder if Nintendo will opt for a 120 hz screen. That would be quite nice.

For sure and they'll probably still have joycon drift as a feature as to that fact.

120 hz really that expensive?  I don't follow portables but on TVs is is fairly common.

I would assume so, the models with 120 are dramatically more expensive than 60hz TV's. At least in my experience. Some have Ai integrated that claim 120 but aren't really getting there.

Fair enough.  I haven't priced out a TV in a couple of years.  I ended up with an LG OLED, can't complain.

Nintendo needs to use hall effect. Still in shock SEGA solved analog drift in 1995 with Saturn and then again in 1999 with Dreamcast. Their analog sticks use magnets or the Hall effect. Not a single one of those controllers drifts today in my collection.
