Her post doesn't bring anything of substance to the table and she even says as much herself. Every sentence in her first paragraph contains either "I could very well be wrong" or an "I think." It's guessing based on hearsay.

Jim rayn isn't a credible source either, because otherwise people would care to spell his name correctly.

Yes, it's well known that Nintendo fanboys are more credible than Jim Ryan, who's worked at Sony for several decades, so let's be serious :3

For all intend and purposes,
it could be 160M, could be just a rounded up number because 160M sounds better than 159.4M, could be slightly higher.

Switch Friend Code : 3905-6122-2909

I wouldn't cite a number we hadn't reached. So I would guess it's rounded down, but it is an unspecified number either way so it makes sense to wait for a specific figure. Though we'll probably never get it.

Although maybe if Switch goes past that, someone may ask Sony about it.

It would be awkward if Switch stopped around 158-159 millions and nobody would know which one sold more.

My bad.

Haven't played Diddy kong racing.

Nah, Switch2 isn't a thing. We will simply get a fourth member of the Switch Family:

Switch, Switch Lite, Switch Oled, Switch SUPER.

It worked for Gameboy and Gameboy color, expanding it's lifecycle to 14 years (1989-2003). With the Switch we are only in it's 8th year, so 6 more to go.

Edit: Duplicate somehow after fixing a spelling mistake. My bad, sorry

When Jim Ryan says something like this:

https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2023/05/jim-ryan-japanese-market-still-very-important-to-sony

...then not even PS fans are willing to believe him, because it's known that Sony has shut down most of its studios in Japan. So when this guy says "160m" in a podcast, then it shouldn't be taken as fact either, because the guy's ability and willingness to spin is on record.

Exact PS2 lifetime figures remain unknown and still fall in the same range as calculated many years ago. This is essentially non-news and also has no influence on any discussions regarding Switch vs. PS2 lifetime sales, because a rounded 160m figure has been the commonly acknowledged and accepted target all along. This means the point of contention regarding Ryan's comment in a podcast is not whether the PS2 reached 160m or not, but rather whether or not to trust Jim Ryan's words blindly.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

All the top people in the companies make spins. If you think Microsoft and Nintendo are different, go back to Earth.

In this case, we don't believe anyone and we stop believing the figures given by all the companies.

I think vgchartz knows PS2's numbers better than Sony themself

Sony themselves said 155.1 million ;)

@Adonis, the difference with Nintendo atleast is that their figures are announced publicly on the site. So not PR, we can trust those figures. Sony's figures are announced in a casual podcast from a prior employee. Sony's site says 155.1 million for PS2.
